It has been a busy last couple of weeks for the streaming service when it comes to films.
Over the past month or so, Netflix has added dozens of movies, both new and old, to its library.
And to make it easier for JOE readers in the UK and Ireland to find something to watch, we’ve compiled a list of the 25 films from these additions we think are the most worth your time.
1917
The Oscar-winning “one-shot style” World War I film from 2019 which was co-written and directed by Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, Skyfall).
Ad Astra
Brad Pitt plays a sad astronaut who travels to the edge of the solar system in order to both save the world and work out unresolved familial trauma in this gorgeous, meditative sci-fi.

The Beguiled
The great Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, Priscilla) writes and directs this remake of the Clint Eastwood-led ’70s Southern Gothic thriller.
In the 2017 movie, Colin Farrell stars as an injured Union soldier on the run as a deserter during the US Civil War who winds up seeking refuge at an all-female boarding school.
While the teachers (Kirsten Dunst and Nicole Kidman) and students (Elle Fanning) at first seem more than willing to help, soon sexual tensions lead to dangerous rivalries as the women tend to the soldier.
The Black Phone
Coming from the team behind Sinister – the scariest movie ever according to science – The Black Phone centres around a teenage boy abducted by a serial child killer known as The Grabber (Ethan Hawke).
Discovering a mystical black rotary phone in captivity that allows him to communicate with his captor’s slain victims, the child plots an escape.
Brian & Charles
This well-liked 2022 comedy drama follows a lonely inventor in rural Wales who builds a robot from a washing machine with whom he forms a friendship.
Bullet Train
Brad Pitt headlines again, this time in a very fun action flick mostly set on a Japanese train.
The Death of Stalin
This incredible black comedy from Armando Iannucci (I’m Alan Partridge, The Thick of It, Veep) depicts the power struggle that followed the death of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in 1953.
We recently spoke to Iannucci about his upcoming stage version of Dr. Strangelove and you can watch a clip from that conversation below:
Forrest Gump
“Life’s a box of chocolates, Forrest.”
In the Land of Saints and Sinners
Liam Neeson, Kerry Condon and Ciarán Hinds are among the cast of this action thriller set in ’70s Ireland that we’ve been calling ‘The Irish Avengers’.
Lost in Translation
Perhaps Sofia Coppola’s most beloved movie, she directs this romantic comedy-drama about a fading movie star (Bill Murray) having a midlife crisis who befriends a young woman and recent college graduate (Scarlett Johansson) while in Tokyo.
Jurassic World: Dominion
The most recent movie in the dinosaur franchise.
Masterminds
Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Jason Sudeikis headline this 2016 crime comedy based on true events.

This well-reviewed legal drama tells the true story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi (a Golden Globe-nominated Tahar Rahim) and his fight for freedom after being detained and imprisoned without charge by the US Government for years.

The Raid
A police tactical squad raids a ruthless drug lord’s apartment block in the slums of Jakarta in Indonesia, only to find its members trapped by the criminals – forcing the squad to fight their way through the complex.
The 2011 movie that truly raised the bar for action cinema.
Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver
