Mattea Roach in Jeopardy! Masters Season 2
Amy Schneider, a writer from Oakland, California (47-16, 1 point)
Amy Schneider in Jeopardy! Masters Season 2
Matt Amodio, a quantitative researcher from New York, New York (42-12, 1 point)
Matt Amodio in Jeopardy! Masters Season 2

Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:

Tonight’s opening match of Jeopardy! Masters, between Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider, and Mattea Roach, is a must-win game for all three players here. Whoever wins this is going to be very likely to advance to the semifinals. Interestingly, this identical matchup in last year’s Masters ended up being crucial for Amy’s chances; an under-wager in Final Jeopardy was one of the major reasons why she was relegated. However, it seems as though Amy’s wagering has improved recently; I would expect her to bet a similar situation properly in 2024. Mattea’s buzzer struggles have been significant in the 2024 event, but they are still tied with Matt and Amy on the overall scoreboard; a win here and much of this may be forgotten. Meanwhile, the prediction model things Matt is the favorite to win, and I think he will if the Daily Doubles go his way.

It should be noted that if you’re in Canada, this match airs on CTV and not CTV2; depending on your PVR, you might have to set your PVR to record this one separately from the rest of the series.

  1. This was a great game, no run away winner.mGo Amy!!

  2. I didn’t know the FJ and retro congrats to Amy on a huge win!

  3. I believe I have heard of ‘destalinization’ once or twice before (even including what that entailed), but I had no chance to think of it because I’d always heard ‘eponymous’ before in terms of someone with a direct relation to the subject (like author/book-title, actor/sitcom, etc.) so was trying to think of something using ‘Khrushchev’. I know now that ‘eponymous’ can be further removed than that (more of a “third person” situation). The only Russian process(?) I could think of was ‘Glasnost’ but knew that related to Gorbachev rather than Khrushchev (and wasn’t eponymous anyway).

  4. I quickly saw that Mattea had their buzzer mojo back!
