The most obvious thing for us to say when we overtake them is we're now unquestionably Scotland's most successful club.

Calling ourselves "the World's Most Successful Club" would of course be laughable and you could easily argue we're already Scotland's most successful club but when we overtake the count that they've had going, we should be acknowledging in some way that it is beyond question

I’ve missed the early hilarity tonight, can anyone tell me where Butland was beaten tonight?

Not low and to his left surely?

I seem to remember "the world's most successful club" thing was born when the old club won their 100th trophy in the early 21st century.  Although it was clearly nonsense (Linfield - of all clubs!- had actually won more, never mind Al-Ahli, Real Madrid etc etc), they kept it running because it was clear they were never going to win the European Cup, and it served as a point of distinction for them, compared to us.

At the time they were miles ahead of us in terms of trophies, and both clubs were sharing the spoils, so they probably didn't give us catching them much thought.

But in 2012, the claim became a matter of existential importance.  If they could still claim to be "the world's most successful club", then they were - by definition - stilll the same club as the one that had just, erm, died.  That's when the branding really stepped up around their stadium and in their press releases.

The only issue was those pesky Tims had been collecting treble after treble and were now closing in on the combined total of the two clubs.  So when we overtake that total, they will need to acknowledge us as "the world's most successful club" - on their own definition.  And there's no way their black hearts will do that.

So I predict they will either mount a desperate rearguard action, and include war titles etc... or they will quietly let the whole nonsense drop.
Yeah I don't remember it ever being floated prior to that. Same as the gallant pioneers thing, it's all relatively recent, decades ago you never heard anything about it.

And please God don't let anyone start that keech when we do overtake that total on all fronts, that would be embarrassing and demeaning.
Not that it will ever happen, but when we win 55, I would love our board to claim to be the first Scottish club to do so, just to see the hunplosion

Cheers huns. I had £15 on Dundee at 22-1 on Sunday night with bet 365. Paid out at 813pm. Will be using that money to treat the missus to a wee spa day, a good drink and a nice meal at seamill hydro. Will probably get my Nat king and not on the biweekly Saturday night.

The best of it is we only started winning trebles after the " new Rangers " returned to the top division, imagine if Lawwell and Desmond had actually taken it seriously and backed Lennon and Ronny instead of downsizing.

It'll be funny if/when we overtake them, mostly because we can see how much it actually means to them. The first time I even knew how many league titles we had won was when I first noticed the whole "55" thing and I had to google.

I wouldn't trade having won Old Big Ears for all the domestic titles in Scotland, it put Celtic and Scottish football on the map and for the rest of the 60s and into the 70s Celtic and the Lions where always there challenging at the pinnacle of European football.

Didn't realise that Fabio Silvas dad was part of that scummy Boavista side we pumped out the UEFA Cup in 2003. Glad the family tradition of getting skelped from us is going strong.
That family must hate our name!   :lolhuns:
Don't know... you'd think their own name would have prepared them well for coming second.

He is a fecking banger of the highest proportion. I bet he goes in a mood with his Mrs and wean if they don’t finish any interaction without telling him “I love and appreciate you Todd (Dad), and the wean is only about 10 months old. Wee pumpkin

Bit harsh on the wean to call him a pumpkin, but then again, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

"You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter" is the perfect quote to sum up Cantwell.
