Boys sport Athlete of the Week: Cameron Davis, Calvert Hall, track and field

The standout senior distance runner was sensational in leading the Cardinals to their third straight MIAA A Conference outdoor track and field championship, which finished Saturday at Archbishop Spalding. Davis won 800 meters (1 minute, 52.45 seconds), 1,600 (4:12.82) and 3,200 (9:21.15) while running the anchor leg on the winning 4×800-meter relay. Calvert Hall finished with 207 points to overwhelm the field as Gilman took second with 112.

Girls sport Athlete of the Week: Elena Cooper, McDonogh, track and field

The standout junior won two individual events, enjoyed a personal best in taking second in another and was part of a winning relay team to help the Eagles claim the IAAM A Conference championship, which finished Saturday at McDonogh. Cooper won the long jump with an effort of 19 feet, captured the 400-meter race in 56.25 seconds and ran the third leg of the Eagles’ winning 4×100-meter relay that was a meet record. She also jumped 38 feet, 8 inches to finish second in the triple jump. McDonogh claimed its 16th A Conference title with 219 points, well ahead of second-place Archbishop Spalding’s 128.5.
