The artist tells how the song came about, ““Cottonmouth Blues” is about one of the best experiences of my life and this really groovy spot in Bradenton, Florida’s Village of The Arts, the Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen. Last summer I had the privilege of sitting in on guitar for a few months at the Cottonmouths long standing Sunday Jam with drummer James Varnado (Dickey Betts & Great Southern) and his band. Blues legend and Gulf Coast luminary Steve Arvey, also originally from Chicago, had given me the hot tip to check in there.. Reminiscing, the tune came to me in a flash and was written and recorded in one sitting, off the cuff. I now realize I lifted some of the mellody from The Replacements “Waitress in The Sky”. So be it. True story.”

He has worked with Willie Nelson, Crowded House, Marc Cohn, Jools Holland, Matchbox Twenty, The Cult, BoyHaunt, Gladys Knight, Trent Summar and The West Coast Mob, Smashing Pumpkins, Del McCoury, OK Go, Exodus, Molly Leach, Tom Morello, O.A.R., Madness, The Crystal Method, DrunkHungry, Deadmau5, Zac Brown, CrysP Tyger, Bighead Todd and the Monsters, Jake Shimabukuro, Barenaked Ladies, Tsar, Killola and more. Donnelly regularly performs with Nathan Jacques as well as Little Silver Hearts and records with GhostsDream. Little known fact: He previously held Top Secret Security Clearance with the U.S. Department of State and Q Clearance from the Department of Energy.
He currently runs The Barber’s Basement Recording Studio in Highland Park and is a partner in The Atmos at Lemontree Studio.
