Emma Stone couldn't have asked for a better costar in Kinds of Kindness than Joe Alwyn.

In a press release about the upcoming Yorgos Lanthimos film, Stone — who previously worked with Alwyn on Lanthimos' 2018 movie The Favourite — sang her fellow actor's praises, and expressed her gratitude for getting to work with him considering some of Kinds of Kindness' challenging subject matter.

"I love Joe," Stone, 35, said of Alwyn, 33. "We had to do some pretty dark stuff on this one, so it was extremely comforting to be with him because he’s one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet.”

Stone and Alwyn, who previously had a long-term relationship with the Oscar winner's close friend Taylor Swift, appear alongside several other big-name actors in Kinds of Kindness, including Willem DafoeMargaret QualleyJesse PlemonsHong Chau, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer.

According to an official synopsis, "Kinds of Kindness is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing at sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader."

Released in March, a 46-second teaser — set to Eurythmics' 1983 hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" — shows Stone driving a purple car and teases appearances from its ensemble cast.

While the trailer does not give away much in terms of a story, it ends with Stone's character driving into a parking lot at what appears to be an apartment complex.

At the New York City premiere of Poor Things in December 2023, Lanthimos, 50, teased to PEOPLE that Kinds of Kindness differs from his other movies as a "contemporary film."

"It's three different stories and there's a core of seven actors, including Emma of course, who play one character in each story, so they all play three different characters," he added at the time.

Dafoe, 68, and Qualley, 29, previously worked with Stone and Lanthimos on last year's Poor Things, which won four Oscars at the recent 2024 Academy Awards. The movie also starred Mark Ruffalo, who was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category.

While Stone took home Best Actress, Poor Things also nabbed Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Kinds of Kindness premieres in theaters June 21.
