Centurion Stubbs paints glorious cricket canvas

Teams have battled through wet pitches, cold temperatures and high winds to enjoy a successful start to the 2024 School Sport Magazine National Schools U15 & U18 Girls T20 Cricket Cups.

And pride of place in the early season exchanges went to centurion Charlotte Stubbs who hit one of the best innings seen in the history of the U18 competition.

Charlotte smashed 141 runs off just 71 balls to help Latymer Upper School reach 222-2 in their 20 overs against Ibstock Place School.

Ibstock battled hard in reply but Leila Bailey (5-11) and Flossie Smith (4-9) bowled brilliantly to dismiss them out for 111.

Elsewhere in the south east, Maisie Taylor scored an impressive half century and Sophia Kilburn took 3-31 as Brighton College (155-6) defeated Eastbourne College (138-7) by 17 runs.

However an equally imposing 56no by India-Rose Fox wasn’t quite enough as Norwich School’s 120-7 was run down by Wymondham College (122-1), helped by an unbeaten 45 from Evie Smith.

Surrey’s Gordon’s School got better of City of London Freemen’s School by 26 thanks to 42 from Teddy Bascombe and 40 from Izzy Moors.
