In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali reflected on his career and working with actors from different generations. The conversation came amidst the success of his new Netflix series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. While acknowledging the evolution of filmmaking and acting styles, Sanjay expressed his admiration for the demands placed on actors in earlier decades. He highlighted the operatic, high-pitched acting in the 80s and 90s, exemplified by films like Devdas.

Highlighting Shah Rukh Khan's Performance

SLB specifically praised the performances of Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, and Kirron Kher in Devdas. He noted the technical skill and understanding required for such a theatrical acting style, suggesting it might challenge modern actors.

Contrasting Acting Styles

The 61-year-old filmmaker contrasted the operatic approach with the subtler, underplayed approach favored in contemporary Indian cinema. He emphasized that he appreciates the dedication of all actors he has collaborated with throughout his 30-year career. The acclaimed director highlighted the value of working with diverse personalities. He expressed his belief in a mutually beneficial creative process, where both he and the actors contribute to the characters and the overall film.

Coming back to the show, it started streaming on the OTT giant from May 1 onwards. It stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Richa Chadha in the lead. Meanwhile, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman, and Taha Shah Badussha are seen in pivotal roles.
