Whenever Justin and I go to Malaysia, we’re always impressed with the street art and wall murals in the cities.
On a recent trip to Melaka (Malacca), located 145 kilometers (90 miles) south of Kuala Lumpur, Justin and I were pleased to wander around Melaka’s main UNESCO World Heritage Site area and random side streets to see beautiful street art.
The artwork is on a smaller scale compared to Penang and Ipoh, but just as impressive.
We love how they are free to access and showcase the city’s culture and lifestyle. Since wall art changes over time, you never know what new murals you’ll see on your visit.
So, if you’re interested in where these pretty street art and murals are located in Melaka, continue reading this post. You can easily take the places below and create your own walking tour.

Melaka World Heritage City Mural
When entering the UNESCO World Heritage area, you can’t miss the large white sign of “Welcome to Melaka World Heritage City – Melaka and George Town Historic cities of the Straits of Malacca (Malaysia) being inscribed on 7 July 2008 Quebec, Canada by UNESCO” sign on the red brick-colored wall.
Next to the sign are paintings of three Malaysian people – a woman wearing a traditional red outfit and holding an umbrella, a man wearing a light blue and yellow traditional outfit, and another woman wearing a beautiful white dress with jewelry.
Melaka World Heritage City artwork is a fantastic starting point to your own Melaka street art tour
It’s one of the top photo spots for group tours and visitors as it’s very accessible and near the main attractions.

Melaka 3D Street Art艺术街 / My Kiehl’s Heritage Art
The most famous wall art location is the 3D Street Art located near the Jonker Street Night Market and along the Melaka River.
The entire wall is covered with colorful geometric shapes and flowers. It’s a fun spot and will brighten up your mood.
There are a few doorways with steps so you can take photos. The most Instagram-worthy spot is the Kiehl’s doorway (also called My Kiehl’s Heritage). The skincare company collaborated with the artist, Fritilldea, to create this artwork.

We visited this place twice as our first visit had crowds of people taking photos. On our second visit, we met a local artist, Francis Goh. He was super chatty with us and shared news articles about his work. He sells his artwork at the Sunday flea market. As a thank you for chatting with him, he gave us a gift of one of his watercolored paintings. What a nice gesture!

The Orangutan House
Across the street from the 3D Street Art/My Kiehl’s Heritage is The Orangutan House. It’s a large orangutan covering the side of the wall. The artwork is a bit faded so hopefully, it gets restored in the future.

The Orangutan House was established in 1993 and is an art studio for the artist, Charles Cham. You can stop by to buy oil paintings, silkscreen prints, and more.
We didn’t have a chance to visit the store, but you can read about Charles Cham’s work on Facebook or Instagram.

Along the Melaka River
One of the coolest parts about Melaka is walking along the calm river. There is a walkway where you stop and see the river cruise boats pass by, eat at one one of the riverfront restaurants and cafes, and just enjoy the stroll.
Along the way, you’ll see some cool artwork on the buildings. Here is one that I took a photo of:
If you don’t want to walk, you can take one of the river cruises and see the artwork from the river.

Melaka Street Art – The Well
We saw this pin on Google Maps and had to visit this very quiet side street. You’ll pass by a small breakfast/cafe and then you see an array of artwork.
Many of the murals depict local Malaysian life such as children playing and pulling each other on dried leaves, a group of men enjoying a cup of coffee, a man fixing a motorbike, and much more.
Take some time to thoroughly walk through the area and check out each of the artwork.

Horses
We came across the Horses street art after taking a short coffee break at Coffeebar125+.
For this mural, there is a white and cream-colored horse and a brown and black horse galloping.
To the right of the artwork, there is a short paragraph in Chinese. Unfortunately, I can’t read it fully so I’m not sure what it says. If you can read the text, please let us know in the comment box below.

Harry Putter
To the right of the Horses artwork is Harry Putter. There are Chinese characters (黑日白兔 ) written next to #HarryPutter and when saying the characters, it sounds like Harry Potter. It’s a cute play on words!
The artwork is a black and white cat riding a broom and flying away from the train station, just like in Harry Potter’s world.

Lao Chen Ice Cendol Mural
On our way to Restoran Tong Sheng, one of our recommended restaurants to try in Melaka, we found this wall art of Lao Chen Ice Cendol.
The wall art is interactive as there is a real bicycle in front of the Lao Chen Ice Cendol sign and a chair in front of a man giving a thumbs up and two girls eating bowls of cendol. The wall art also says, “Welcome to Melaka World Heritage City. I Heart Melaka.”
This is a fun, interactive street art with cendol.
You can sit on either the bicycle or chair, but be careful with the chair as it’s slightly broken.
It’s a cute wall art, but it’s located farther from the UNESCO area so many people don’t know about it. We tried to learn more about this cendol palace, but I don’t think it exists anymore. So, we have this street art for memories.

Ibis Melaka Hotel
We stayed at Ibis Melaka Hotel during our weekend in Melaka. In front of the hotel is a wall art of Melaka UNESCO city area. You’ll see the main highlights of the city – decorative rickshaws, Jonker Street, A Formosa, and much more.
Outside of Ibis Melaka Hotel
The hotel is located in the heart of Little India, so you can walk through here to see the neighborhood before checking out the artwork.

Final Thoughts
We highly recommend seeing the street art to get more insight into the culture and history of the country. They’re an easy addition to your Melaka itinerary.
All you need is a pair of comfortable walking shoes and then find these incredible murals for yourself.
