A student at Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa won a brand-new car during a raffle on Friday that was hosted by an Antioch car dealership.

Community High School District 117 Superintendent Dr. Jeff Feucht said the giveaway was part of the “Driving for Education Program.”

The drawing was held Friday morning at the Raymond Chevrolet Kia dealership in Antioch.

“This will be an exciting day, as one deserving graduate will be awarded a brand-new car in recognition of their outstanding achievements,” Feucht said just before the drawing.

The “Driving for Education” program, a collaboration between District 117 — which includes Antioch Community High School and Lakes Community High School — and Raymond Chevrolet Kia, aims to encourage students to excel in various aspects of their lives.

Eligibility criteria for the cum laude distinction and the car giveaway include earning a minimum of 26 academic credits, maintaining exemplary behavior with zero suspensions, contributing to the community with at least 40 hours of volunteer work, securing three capstone credits and participating in at least four extracurricular activities.

Feucht said the excitement within the district was “palpable” as the drawing approached.

“This event is not just about rewarding academic and personal growth; it’s about motivating our students to ‘drive’ toward their futures with confidence and purpose. We are grateful to Raymond Chevrolet Kia for providing this opportunity for one of our students,” Feucht said.

Mark Scarpelli of Raymond Chevrolet Kia said that seeing the community come together in anticipation of this event is “truly inspiring.”

“We are proud to play a role in supporting the educational journey of District 117’s students,” Scarpelli said.

Elizabeth Snyder from Lakes Community High School won the drawing on Friday and will have the opportunity to select a brand-new Chevrolet or Kia.

The raffle was live-streamed while graduates from both high schools were in assembly.

Snyder will be going to the car dealership soon to select her new car.
