Explosives destroy Baltimore's bridge detritus.

Near the end of March, a freighter unintentionally smashes into a support post of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, resulting in the bridge's collapse. A portion of the fallen bridge has trapped the cargo ship, making it difficult to move it. Demolition work is now underway.

Just about seven weeks after the fall of a long highway bridge in the American city of Baltimore, experts strategically detonated the remaining debris. In late March, the freighter "Dali" collided with a support pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, resulting in the collapse of the more than 8,000 feet long, four-lane highway bridge. The cleanup efforts have been underway for some time. However, a part of the extensive bridge structure had fallen on the ship during the incident, hindering its removal. This section of the bridge has now been detonated with explosive devices in order to release the ship from its bindings.

The beached "Dali" remains at the scene of the incident, but is expected to be moved soon so that normal shipping traffic can resume. The inquiry into the cause of the accident is still in progress. The 21-person crew of the "Dali", comprising Indians and Sri Lankans, remain on board the ship. Following the crew's account, they were unable to navigate the ship. The FBI is investigating, among other things, if the men were aware of technical issues when the ship set sail.

Eight Latino construction workers who were engaged in repairing the bridge were washed into the water during the accident. Two were rescued alive, while six others were recovered deceased. The body of the last missing individual was discovered last week.

The ship's crew had made an emergency call previously on the day of the collision with the bridge pillar, which may have saved lives. This notification prompted local officials to stop traffic and prevent further vehicles from reaching the bridge.
