This Sunday, May 12, the BAFTAs decided to cast their gaze on the small skylight. On this occasion, the famous British academy wanted to reward the best in television entertainment. Within the different categories, we found very big fish like The Last of Us, Succession, The Bear and many others. However, this French Netflix series in direct competition with them did not let itself be devoured: it was she who swallowed them up to everyone’s surprise!
Foreign productions that make the Netflix catalog shine
It is true that the Netflix catalog is above all known for its original English-speaking programs, and this is what has made its success and reputation: Stranger Things, Wednesday, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, The Bridgerton Chronicles and many others. However, the American giant has exported this confidence all over the world, giving rise to a series of other global successes such as The House of Paper (and its spin-off, Berlin), Dark, All of Us are Dead and especially, Squid Game. By extension, French productions increasingly benefit from great international visibility and popularity.

Beyond this great success, there have been other small phenomena from our dear French countryand Netflix continues this momentum by giving the green light to multiple projects, such as breathtaking thriller with Guillaume Canet (actor and director ofAsterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom) headlining that we were talking about recently. However, if the cinema made in France is currently shining abroad, it is for a completely different creation inspired by a very famous businessman.

On paper, we could say that it is almost impossible to compete against the series The Last of Us, The Bear And Succession. Between them alone, the competition is more than fierce! However, a French series played the card ofoutsider and made everyone agree at the prestigious BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards ceremony. While Netflix is generally shunned during these gala evenings, the platform has pulled off a very nice coup… thanks to its mini-series Tapieretracing the journey of businessman Bernard Tapie over seven episodes.
The result is very hot: it is on the official X account (formerly Twitter) that Netflix France announced that the mini-series Tapie won the Best Foreign Series award from the British Academy. As the name of the series suggests, Tapie is interested in the journey and life of the businessman and politician with many hats. Controversial, as much as the idea behind this project, the former president of the Olympique de Marseille football club was opposed to the production of this series. If it was not an audience hit, it nonetheless remains a fiction acclaimed by spectators who allowed it to obtain an average of 4.1 out of 5 (4.2 out of 5 for the press ).
