Collingwood's Junior A Blues continue to win their way through the preliminary round of the Centennial Cup, keeping the Canadian Junior Hockey League championship in sight.
This afternoon the Blues shut-out College Francais de Longueuil with an 8-0 victory at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville.
This is the Blues' third preliminary-round game and their third win in the 2024 Centennial Cup round-robin national championship series.
Collingwood's Spencer Young and Dylan Hudon scored the first two goals of the game, both during power plays in the first period. Assists went to Mark McIntosh, Calum Chau (times two) and Cameron Eke.
The second period saw the Blues net four, one by Captain Dylan Hudon while the team was short-handed, one by Ryan Cook (assisted by Landwon Wright and Ethan Facchina) and two more power-play goals by Landon Wright (assists by Jack Silverman and Jack Robertson) and Spencer Young again (assisted by Calum Chau).
Longueuil swapped their goalie for the third, but the Blues netted two more. Another goal by Spencer Young, this time assisted by Dylan Hudon, and the final goal by Jack Rimmer (assists Jack Silverman and Spencer Young) finished the game.
The Blues' Noah Pak minded the net for the whole 60 minutes, stopping 22 shots on goal from Longueuil. His impressive goaltending was backed by three goals and one assist for Spencer Young and two goals and an assist for Captain Dylan Hudon.
The latest victory is added to a 10-2 win for the Blues over the Greater Sudbury Cubs on May 10 and a 5-4 win over the Calgary Canucks on May 9. The Collingwood Blues lead the standings for the championship so far.
Collingwood plays the Navan Grads on May 15 with the puck drop at 4 p.m. The games are streamed online and local fans have been hosting watch parties at the Collingwood Legion for the games thus far.
Quarterfinal games begin May 17 and the championship game takes place May 19.
