Bruce Springsteen’s classic 1984 album ‘Born In The U.S.A.’ will receive a special edition 40th anniversary re-release next month.
The Boss’ seventh studio album saw him embracing synthesisers and a more pop-influenced direction and went on to sell over 30 million copies. It includes the huge hit singles ‘Dancing In The Dark’, ‘Glory Days’, ‘I’m On Fire’ and the title track.
The re-release will be out on June 4, the exact anniversary of its original release, with translucent red vinyl and expanded packaging with an exclusive booklet containing archival material from the era, newly-penned liner notes from Springsteen archivist Erik Flannigan and a four-colour lithograph. A Springsteen biopic is also currently in the works, titled Deliver Me From Nowhere. The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White will portray the musician and it is set to be directed by Scott Cooper, who also helmed Crazy Heart, Black Mass, Antlers and more. Springsteen is said to be actively involved in the project.
It has recently been reported by Variety that Succession star Jeremy Strong has joined the cast, playing Jon Landau, Springsteen’s longtime manager who was hired in 1975 and co-produced nine of his albums, including ‘Nebraska’ and ‘Born In The U.S.A.’.
Springsteen kicked off his UK and European tour this week at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, his first show in Wales for 11 years. It begins a three-month string of dates that will end with two climactic nights at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 25 and 27.

In keeping with recent form, the Boss dug deep into his back catalogue on his 29-song setlist, playing rare tracks such as ‘So Young And In Love’ and ‘If I Was The Priest’. He has been making a habit of it recently, also recently enlisting Tom Morello to help perform ‘Open All Night’ and ‘Sherry Darling’ for the first time on this tour in April.
Elsewhere, the Boss recently took part in Mark Knopfler’s star-studded charity re-recording of ‘Going Home’, which starred the likes of Queen‘s Brian May, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and many more.
He also made a cameo appearance in a recent episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and released the career-spanning compilation ‘Best Of Bruce Springsteen’ in April via Sony Music.
