Les Percussions de Strasbourg is the first professional Western percussion ensemble, made up of six percussionists. Founded in 1962, the ensemble forever altered the history of percussion chamber music. The six French percussionists would begin to commission works from the foremost avant-garde musical minds in Europe. They have premiered over 250 works of contemporary classical music, including Iannis Xenakis's Pléïades, Inventions by Miloslav Kabeláč and Karlheinz Stockhausen's Musik im Bauch.
