I diy a block window for my semi diy shower. Can any siding pros help me figure out how to water proof the bottom? More details written below

home improvement

I have the window flush with the osb and it is sitting on 1/2 inch of mortar. How do I stop water from getting inbtwn the osb and siding?

Also, should I frame it in somehow?? Or just add j channel to the edges. I do have flashing for the top that I saved when I took the actual window out.

Any tips are appreciated

You definitely need a vapor barrier to protect the wood (tyvek house wrap). That should be sealed against the edge of your window with flashing tape. And should be sealed to the adjacent vapor barrier. … please tell me there is vapor barrier under the rest of your siding …

Typically then a frame made from 5/4 material or a profile called brick molding. You don’t have to make a drip edge but could if you wanted to match the other windows.

I use azek or related pvc foam products that look like wood but are rot resistant being plastic. You can miter and glue a picture frame made from brick mold neatly on the ground then mount it around the window. Caulk both inside and outside edges.

Use j-channel around that to hold and hide the edge of the siding.

No i think you nailed it If using interior paint on the wood use two coats no primer needed

A drip cap is just something the kids wear

It doesn't look like any of the house has a weather barrier under the siding. That window isn't going to be the first to have rot issues. But some liquid flash could go a long way for you.

Yeah it isn’t something that was code at the time

You should call a carpenter before you cost yourself a lot of money.
