Solaris-A Rare Original Vintage Movie Poster of Andrei Tarkovsky's Surreal Romantic Space Odyssey with Natalya Bondarchuk, Donatas Banionis, and Jüri Järvet.
The Solaris mission has established a base on a planet that appears to host some kind of intelligence, but the details are hazy and very secret. After the mysterious demise of one of the three scientists on the base, Kris Kelvin is sent out to replace him. He finds the station run-down and the two remaining scientists cold and secretive. When he encounters his wife who has been dead for ten years, he begins to appreciate the baffling nature of the alien force.
Two truths drive this film: the inadequacy of humankind to understand the Universe, and the inadequacy of humankind to understand the human heart. We are drawn in, through hauntingly beautiful imagery, to the internal struggles of Kris Kelvin as he attempts to understand feelings of love for his wife who committed suicide. She has been mysteriously resurrected, presumably as an attempt by Solaris to communicate, torture, or understand.
Solaris is one of the most original alien entities ever imagined, just a lyrical, enigmatic, presence possibly too advanced for human communication. This is one of Tarkovsky's most romantic films with a budget and set design to match his outsized imagination and the heights of his spiritual quest.
