Portuguese star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has invested in a wearable technology company, Whoop, as it extends into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The founder and chief executive of the company, Will Ahmed, said on Monday, May 13, that the Al Nassr player’s investment is “one of the largest if not the largest investment he's made in a company,” Athlete News reported.

Ahmed added, “Cristiano has been a Whoop member for a number of years, and we’re proud to strengthen our relationship further through this partnership.”

He believed, “Together, we’ll unveil exciting product collaborations to enhance the Whoop experience for our members.”

As per Ahmed Ronaldo reached out to the company for investment after researching about the company and its products, ‘showing his belief in us.’

Ronaldo also expressed, “Whoop has had a transformative impact on my life both on and off the pitch, and I’m honoured to join the team as an investor.”

It should be noted that the former Real Madrid and Manchester United player has made an investment in the company at the time when it is expanding its business into Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Ronaldo, 39, is currently playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

According to start-up tracker Crunchbase, wearable technology company Whoop was founded in 2012, and so far, in the right funding rounds, it has raised about $405 million.
