The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, which reopened on July 10, has announced a number of summer events to welcome back the public after its pandemic shutdown.
The first is the 20th season of the Upbeat on the Roof Concert Series which will be kicked off by Albany-based dream pop band, Laveda, performing at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 29.
The free weekly series will continue with Thomasina Winslow on Aug. 5; Sun is Poison, Aug. 12; and Heavenly Echoes, Aug. 19.

The concerts will take place on the lawn by the Skidmore volleyball courts. Visitors may bring blankets, chairs and refreshments and are advised to arrive early, due to limited capacity. Free parking is available off Perimeter Road, next to the museum. The event will be cancelled in the event of rain.
Additionally, the museum will also be offering a selection of free guided tours through Aug. 22. The tours will be given by Skidmore College students. Known as “Tang Guide Tours,” these are a part of a new program that introduces students to the museum and trains them how to be gallery ambassadors and tour guides. The program also provides guidance on how to talk about art, and gives the students experience interacting with visitors.
There are also “Curator Tours,” given by the organizers of an exhibition. Curators work closely with artists in preparing their exhibitions and can provide valuable insights.
