GoogleGREEN ISLAND — The Upstate Conservative Coalition says it will host controversial speaker Scott Presler at a Green Island business Tuesday night.
The location is the third try for hosting Presler, after his engagements at Gavin Park in Wilton and the Saratoga Springs-Wilton Elks Lodge did not happen.
Presler, identified as a former top strategist for an anti-Muslim group, had already canceled an appearance at Gavin Park that was touted on Twitter by U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik and was to be hosted by the Saratoga County Republican Committee.
The announcement of his initial scheduled appearance sparked Democratic committee chairs in Stefanik's district, as well as area independent and Democratic candidates, to condemn Stefanik and the county GOP for celebrating Presler as an "American Patriot."
Presler attended rallies on Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol and extolled on Twitter that "January 6th, 2021 is going to be a defining moment in American history." And on the eve of Jan. 6, he tweeted: "I can truthfully say that I’ve done everything I possibly could in the last 4 years. Look forward to seeing everyone in DC. Let’s make some history."
Saratoga County GOP Chair Carl Zeilman had said that a case of COVID-19 in RISE PAC, of which Presler is a member, forced the Gavin Park cancellation.
Then the next venue, the Elks Lodge, received "nasty messages and threats," said its political director David Buchyn last week.
Stefanik has since deleted the tweet promoting the initial event.
The coalition posted about the current Tuesday event on its website, saying that Presler will be the special guest at an event from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at American Tactical Systems, 19 Lower Hudson Avenue in Green Island. The event is being promoted as hosting Presler, the 2021 CPAC Ronald Reagan Freedom Award Recipient.
"With close to a million Twitter followers he is quickly becoming public enemy #1 of the left," the coalition said about Presler.
The Tuesday event is also hosting George Phillips, a former Congressional candidate from the Binghamton area.
