SAN JOSE — Five small earthquakes centered about six miles from downtown San Jose were recorded Thursday, with two earlier in the day and a third that hit shortly after 6 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The first quake, magnitude 3.3, was recorded at 10:32 a.m. and was felt in downtown San Jose. The epicenter was between Sierra Road and the west edge of Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve.
Within 15 minutes, about 550 people had reported it on the U.S. Geological Survey’s Did You Feel It webpage. The strongest sensations were reported from zip codes 95127 and 95132, in Alum Rock, the east foothills and the Sierra Road area.
The San Jose Fire Department said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
A second, smaller earthquake was reported at 12:31 p.m., according to the USGS. The 2.6-magnitude temblor was centered in the same area but north of Sierra Road, 6.8 miles northeast of downtown San Jose.
The third earthquake was reported at 6:17 p.m. near Alum Rock, according to the USGS, which said its magnitude was 3.4.
And a 2.8 magnitude earthquake was reported at 9:59 p.m. and a 2.6 struck at 11:19 p.m. in the same area.
