“We’ve done this five times now. Five times are enough.” Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) took a resigned attitude toward having to clear the room on February 7, 2013 during John Brennan’s CIA chief confirmation hearing. The hearing had only been for mere minutes when the first protester from anti-war grassroots organization Code Pink stood up, holding a sign that said “Brennan = Drone Killing.” The subsequent protesters shouted similar messages condemning drone strikes, which Brennan had much control over as President Obama’s primary counterterrorism adviser. As protester after protester stood up, Brennan paused patiently, but Feinstein became increasingly frustrated. After the fourth interruption, she threatened to expel all onlookers — which she made good on after a fifth protester lashed out just seconds later. All observers were dismissed and then readmitted, without Code Pink protesters, who were all seated in the same row.
