It's time for another Fighting Irish football game. On Saturday, Notre Dame (2-0) will take on Purdue (2-0) inside Notre Dame Stadium. The Irish took down Florida State on the road and then beat Toledo at home home last weekend. Now Notre Dame will focus on Purdue, as the Irish continue their run toward a National Championship.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 pm ET. The game will air on NBC with Mike Tirico on the call with Drew Brees as the analyst, while Kathryn Tappen holds things down on the sideline.

1ST QUARTER

Notre Dame received the opening kickoff and started at the 25-yard line. On 1st and 10, quarterback Jack Coan was sacked up the middle for a loss of 9 yards. After that, the Irish WR Lorenzo Styles Jr. was hit with a false start penalty. On 2nd and 24, Kyren Williams rushed up the middle for a gain of 6 yards. On 3rd and 18, Coan attempted to check down to Williams, but he dropped it. Not a great start for the Irish. Jay Bramblett came on to punt to one-time Notre Dame commit TJ Sheffield, who was brought down around midfield.

For Purdue, on 1st and 10 from the ND 49, quarterback Jack Plummer was nearly intercepted by safety Kyle Hamilton. On 2nd and 10, running back King Doerue was tackled after a gain of 4. On 3rd and 6, Plummer hit David Bell for a first down. On 1st and 10 from the 36, Plummer hit for a gain of 3. On 2nd and 7, Doerue was tackled after a gain of 1 by JD Bertrand and Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. On 3rd and 6 from the 32, Plummer checked down to Doerue, who avoided a tackler and picked up a first down. On 1st and 10 from the ND 21, Plummer threw behind Bell, who dropped the ball. Bell was hit hard by Clarence Lewis. On 2nd and 10, Plummer threw toward Payne Durham, but he was defended closely by Drew White. After the incomplete pass, Purdue faced a 3rd and 10. On the next play, Plummer checked down to David Bell, who couldn’t gain more than about 3 yards. On 4th down, Mitchell Fineran came on for the 34-yard field goal and it was good. Purdue leads Notre Dame 3-0.

After the Purdue field goal, Notre Dame started its second possession from the 25-yard line. On 1st and 10, running back Kyren Williams rushed for 6 yards. There was also a face mask penalty called, which was 15 additional yards. On 1st and 10 from the 46, Jack Coan was incomplete to Kevin Austin, who dropped the ball. On 2nd and 10, Coan hit Avery Davis for a gain of 3 yards. On 3rd and 4, ND was hit with a chop block penalty. It backs the Irish up 15 yards to a 3rd and 19. On the next play, Coan rolled right and was incomplete to Michael Mayer. The drive stalled and the Irish were forced to punt. Purdue will start at its own 25-yard line after the punt by Jay Bramblett.

On Purdue’s second possession, the Boilermakers started with a 1st and 10 from the 25. Running back Dylan Downing rushed for 3 yards. On 2nd and 7, Downing carried again for 3 more yards. On 3rd and 3, Jack Plummer connected with Payne Durham for a first down and a gain of 6 yards. On 1st and 10 from the PUR 38, Plummer hit David Bell for a gain of 5 yards. On 2nd and 5, there was a fumbled snap but Purdue quickly recovered. On 3rd and 7, Plummer couldn’t find anyone and he was tackled by Kyle Hamilton after a gain of 3 yards. It brought up a 4th and 4 and a punt for the Boilermakers. The punt was caught and downed at the 7-yard line.

Notre Dame starts its 3rd possession from its own 10-yard line. On 1st and 10, Kyren Williams rushed to the right for 4 yards. On 2nd and 6, Jack Coan handed to Williams, who was drilled in the backfield and a loss of 2. On 3rd and 8, Coan threw deep toward Joe Wilkins, but he couldn’t find him. Once again, the Irish were forced to punt. Jay Bramblett hit that for 35 yards and then it was downed at the Notre Dame 43-yard line.

Purdue starts its 3rd possession from the Notre Dame 43. On 1st and 10, King Doerue rushed up the middle for no gain and he was tackled by Jayson Ademilola and JD Bertrand. On 2nd and 10, Jack Plummer threw back to King Doerue and he was able to pick up 7 yards to the ND 36. On 3rd and 3, Doerue was stopped short after a gain of 2 yards. After the timeout, Purdue stayed on the field. On 4th and 1, Kyle Hamilton made an outstanding play and tackled the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage. Huge stop for Notre Dame.

Notre Dame began possession four from the ND 34. Jack Coan threw a great ball to Avery Davis for a gain of 20 yards. On 1st and 10 from the Purdue 46, Tyler Buchner entered the game. The freshman rushed for 4 yards. That ends the first quarter.

2ND QUARTER

The freshman rushed for 5 yards. That ends the first quarter. When the action returned, Notre Dame faced a 2nd and 5 and Chris Tyree picked up 3 yards. On 3rd and 2, Tyree went nowhere, as the Purdue defense got a ton of push up front. The Irish then faced a 4th and 3 at the Purdue 39 and Jack Coan threw a dart to Kyren Williams. He avoided to tacklers as soon as he caught it and raced to the end zone. Notre Dame 7 Purdue 3.

After the ND score, Purdue started its next possession from the 25-yard line. Dylan Downing rushed for 7 yards on 1st down. He then rushed for 2 yards on 2nd down. On 3rd and 1, he was stopped for a 2-yard loss by Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. Purdue was forced to punt.

Notre Dame started its next possession from its own 42. On 1st and 10, Chris Tyree rushed for 5 yards to the 47. On 2nd and 5, Jack Coan hit Chris Tyree for 3 yards. On 3rd and 2, Coan hit Tyree again for 3 yards and a first down.

On 1st and 10, Coan was incomplete to Kevin Austin. On 2nd and 10 from Purdue 47, Coan found Michael Mayer for a gain of 5 yards. On 3rd and 5, Coan threw deep to Kevin Austin, but the ball was well over his head. The offense remained on the field. On 4th and 5, Coan threw toward Mayer, but it was a clear holding. Notre Dame back in business after the first down.

On 1st and 10 from the 32, Jack Coan was again incomplete to Austin. However, they called pass interference on the Boilermakers.

On 1st and 10 from the 17-yard line, Tyler Buchner returned to the game. He tossed left to Chris Tyree for a 6-yard rush. On 2nd and 4, he tossed again to Tyree, who was only able to gain a yard on the play. On 3rd and 3 from the 10, Jack Coan threw to Austin, but it was just over his head. On 4th and 3, kicker Jonathan Doerer entered the game for the 28-yarder and it was good. Notre Dame leads Purdue, 10-3.

After the Irish field goal, Purdue returned to the field with 8:45 left in the first half. On 1st and 10 from their own 19-yard line, the Boilermakers looked to get some points before halftime. On 1st and 10, Jack Plummer hit King Doerue for a gain of 3 yards. On 2nd and 7, Milton Wright was brought down for a 7-yard loss by defensive end Nana Osafo-Mensah. On 3rd and 14, Plummer was incomplete. Another stop by the Irish defense. Purdue had to punt yet again.

After the poor punt, Notre Dame started from the Purdue 43-yard line. On 1st and 10, Jack Coan connected with Braden Lenzy for a gain of 9 yards. On 2nd and 1, Kyren Williams picked up the first down with a gain of 5 yards. On 1st and 10 from the Purdue 29, Kyren Williams broke a tackle, but was then brought down for a gain of 2. On 2nd and 8, Coan threw left to Chris Tyree, who picked up 5 yards. On 3rd and 3, Zeke Correll was hit with a false start penalty. Purdue then called a timeout. On 3rd and 8 when the teams returned to the field, Jack Coan threw it over Kevin Austin’s head. Austin broke free, but he just missed him. Jonathan Doerer came on for the 45-yard field goal and missed it left. The Irish remain up 7 with 4:46 left in the first half.

After the missed field goal, Purdue started its next drive from its own 27-yard line. On 1st and 10, Jack Plummer hit David Bell for a 9-yard gain. On 2nd and 1, Dylan Downing took the handoff and was dropped at the line of scrimmage by Kurt Hinish. On 3rd and 1, Plummer hit Downing, but he was tackled for a 3-yard loss by linebacker JD Bertrand, last week’s player of the game. Big stop yet again by the Fighting Irish. Purdue was forced to punt. This was a good one and it is downed at the Notre Dame 11-yard line. Notre Dame has 2:51 left to add points before half time.

On 1st and 10 from the 20, Jack Plummer hit Payne Durham for 7 yards. On 2nd and 3, the two connected for another 7 yards and a first down.

On 1st and 10 from the Purdue 34, Plummer was incomplete after being forced out of the pocket by Howard Cross. On 2nd and 10 with 20 seconds remaining before half, Plummer threw short to Jackson Anthrop for a gain of 8 yards. On 3rd and 2 with 11 seconds left, Plummer threw quick to Anthrop for a gain of 6 yards. On the final play of the half, Plummer was incomplete deep. Jayson Ademilola was hit with an unsportsmanlike penalty after the play. That will be added to the 2nd half kick. Halftime.

 3RD QUARTER

Notre Dame was forced to kick off from its own 20-yard line after the unsportsmanlike penalty. Purdue returned it to the 34-yard line. On 1st and 10, King Doerue rushed for 6 yards. On 2nd and 4, Jack Plummer threw to Mershawn Rice for 8 yards and a first down. On 1st and 10, Plummer was forced left out of the pocket and he was incomplete, as Drew White had terrific coverage and broke up the pass. On 2nd and 10 from the PUR 48, Plummer hit Jackson Anthrop for a big gain over the middle, which ended up going for 22 yards. On 1st and 10 from ND 30, Plummer threw right to Brock Thompson for a gain of 11 yards. Easy throw and catch with the defensive backs playing so far off the receivers. On 1st and 10, Durham Payne was hit with a false start penalty. On 1st and 15 from the ND 24, Plummer connected with Thompson again for 7 yards. On 2nd and 8, Plummer hit Payne for a yard, as he was hit hard by safety Kyle Hamilton. After the Notre Dame timeout, Purdue was then faced with a big 3rd and 7. Plummer just missed Milton Wright at the first down marker. He was under a lot of pressure by Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. Kicker Mitchell Fineran then came on and nailed the 34-yard field goal. Notre Dame still leads Purdue, 10-6.

After the Purdue field goal, Notre Dame starts its first possession in the second half from its own 25. Jack Coan was incomplete to Michael Mayer on 1st and 10, but there was holding on the defense. There likely should have been a targeting penalty, but that was not called or reviewed.

After the penalty, the Irish had another first down. Kyren Williams rushed for 3 yards. On 2nd and 7, Braden Lenzy got a Jack Coan pass, but it went for no gain. On 3rd and 7, Jack Coan hit Avery Davis for a 62-yard touchdown. Davis got passed the defender and broke free for the score. Notre Dame leads 17-6 in the third quarter.

After the Irish score, Jack Plummer hit King Doerue for 8 yards to the Purdue 33. Doerue then took the handoff and rushed for 31 yards to the Notre Dame 36. On 1st and 10, Plummer threw it deep to David Bell for the 32-yard catch. It was a great grab by the in-state star. On 1st and goal, Doerue rushed for no gain and was brought down by defensive tackle Kurt Hinish. On 2nd and goal, Plummer gave it to Doerue again, but the Irish, led by Jayson Ademilola and Drew White, stopped him at the line of scrimmage once again. On 3rd and goal from the 3-yard line, Plummer was incomplete to Bell, but cornerback Clarence Lewis was hit with a pass interference penalty. He did have his arm all over Bell’s back, so likely a good call. On 1st and goal from the 2, Plummer was able to hit Milton Wright in the corner of the end zone, who out-jumped Cam Hart for the score. Great catch by the Boilermaker. Notre Dame leads Purdue 17-13.

After the Purdue score, the ensuing kickoff went out of bounds. Notre Dame started from its own 35-yard line. Running back Kyren Williams picked up 6 yards on 1st down. On 2nd and 4, Williams rushed for 5 more yards and a first down.

On 1st and 10 from the ND 46, Jack Coan threw to Braden Lenzy, who dove for it but couldn’t bring it in. Tough catch, but one that likely should be made. On 2nd and 10, Kyren Williams was able to get back to the line of scrimmage but that’s all. On 3rd and 10, Jack Coan threw deep to Kevin Austin, who couldn’t bring it down. That one should have been caught. It wasn’t easy, but he got two hands on it. The Irish have to punt. Jay Bramblett hit a great punt inside the five and TJ Sheffield caught it, which was a costly mistake. He was tackled at the Purdue 4-yard line.

On 1st and 10 from the Purdue 4, Jack Plummer hit David Bell for 3 yards to the 7-yard line. On 2nd and 7, Plummer threw short again to Jackson Anthrop, who picked up 7 yards and a first down. On 1st and 10, Plummer threw short again to Payne Durham, who picked up 4 yards to the Purdue 18. On 2nd and 6, Plummer rushed for 11 yards and a first down. On 1st and 10 from the Purdue 29-yard line, Plummer was sacked by defensive end Justin Ademilola for a 4-yard loss. On 2nd and 14, King Doerue caught a swing pass that went for no gain when he was brought down by Kyle Hamilton. On 3rd and 14, Plummer dropped back, felt pressure from Jayson Ademilola, and was incomplete to Doerue. Purdue had to punt. Notre Dame defense did a great job of tightening up.

On 1st and 10 from the ND 35, Irish offensive tackle Tosh Baker was hit with a false start penalty. It was his second of the game. On 1st and 15, Jack Coan rolled right and rushed for 5 yards. On 2nd and 10, Coan then hit Braden Lenzy for 12 yards and a first down. On 1st and 10 from the ND 47, Chris Tyree rushed for 3 yards. That was the end of the third quarter.

4TH QUARTER

On 1st and 10 from the ND 35, Irish offensive tackle Tosh Baker was hit with a false start penalty. It was his second of the game. On 1st and 15, Jack Coan rolled right and rushed for 5 yards. On 2nd and 10, Coan then hit Braden Lenzy for 12 yards and a first down. On 1st and 10 from the ND 47, Chris Tyree rushed for 3 yards. Following the end of the third quarter, the Irish faced a 2nd and 7. Coan then hit a wide open Chris Tyree, who gained 19 before stepping out of bounds. On 1st and 10 from the Purdue 31, Chris Tyree picked up 3 yards on the play. On 2nd and 7, Tyree rushed inside for 2 more yards. On 3rd and 5 from the Purdue 26, Jack Coan hit Avery Davis once again and this one went for 15 yards to the 11-yard line. On 1st and 10 from the 11-yard line, Chris Tyree made a man miss and then picked up 3 yards. On 2nd and 7, Jack Coan was sacked for a loss of On 3rd and 11, Coan avoided a sack, but couldn’t hit Braden Lenzy or Joe Wilkins in the back of the end zone. The ball soared above their heads. Jonathan Doerer then came on and hit the 30-yard field goal. It nearly missed right, but it all worked out for the Irish. Notre Dame leads Purdue 20-13 with 10:50 remaining in the game.

WIth 9:45 left in the game, the Irish started from the Purdue 39-yard line. On 1st and 10, Jack Coan threw an absolute dime into Braden Lenzy’s hands in the end zone and he just dropped it. He looked up right into the zone, but that is a huge drop. On 2nd and 10, Coan was sacked for a loss of 7 yards by Lawrence Johnson. On 3rd and 17, Coan checked down to Kyren Williams, who picked up 8 yards to bring up a 4th and 9. Jay Bramblett hit a great punt and it was downed at the Purdue 1-yard line. There is 8:05 left in the game. On 1st and 10 from the 1, Aidan O’Connell entered the game at quarterback. King Doerue rushed for no gain on the play. On 2nd and 10, O’Connell hit Jackson Anthrop for a big gain of 28 yards on the play. On 1st and 10, O’Connell was complete to Mershawn Rice for 5 yards, his second reception of the game. On 2nd and 5, Cam Hart broke up a pass from O’Connell to Anthrop. Really nice play by the Irish cornerback. On 3rd and 5, O’Connell was incomplete again, this time to David Bell. Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa brought a ton of pressure and forced the early throw. Really good coverage on the play by Hart once again. The Boilermakers were forced to punt. This was a line drive punt, which was returned by Kyren Williams to midfield. There was 6:16 left on the clock.

On 1st and 10 from the Notre Dame 49-yard line, running back Kyren Williams may have just put an end to this game. He rushed up the middle for a 51-yard score, which included broken tackles and making guys miss in the open field. Notre Dame leads Purdue 27-13 with 6:05 left in the game.

After the long touchdown rush by Notre Dame, Purdue started from its own 25-yard line. Aidan O’Connell returned to the game and was incomplete on first down. He was then complete to David Bell for 2 yards to the Purdue 27. He was then incomplete to Bell on the play, who was hit hard by safety Kyle Hamilton on the play and the game was paused for an injury timeout with 6:05 left in the game. It was a nasty collision and the booth reviewed the play for a potential targeting call. More importantly, Bell was able to get up and walk to the cart before being taken into the locker room. Scary situation, but he looks to be alright. There was targeting on the play. Purdue then faced a 4th and 8 and O’Connell was tackled right at the line of scrimmage. He was given a first down, despite it looking like he ended up just short of the line. The refs didn’t review the spot. On 1st and 10, O’Connell hit Jackson Anthrop for 13 yards to the Purdue 48. On 2nd and 10, he was incomplete to Milton Wright, who was defended by cornerback Cam Hart. The Boilermakers were hit with a false star penalty and it brought up a 2nd and 15 from the Purdue 43. On 2nd and 15, O’Connell connected with Mershawn Rice for a 1st down and a gain of 16 yards. On 1st and 10, O’Connell hit Payne Durham for a 4-yard gain. On 2nd and 6, he hit Mershawn Rice for 8 yards and another first down. There is 3:54 left on the clock. On 1st and 10, he was complete to King Doerue for 4 yards to the Noter Dame 25. O’Connell then hit Milton Wright for 12 yards and a first down. On 1t and 10, King Doerue rushed for 2 yards and was brought down by JD Bertrand and Jack Kiser. On 2nd and 8 from the 11, O’Connell was intercepted by Kyle Hamilton in the end zone.  Notre Dame has the ball once again with 2:32 left in the game.

Purdue started with the ball with just over 2 minutes left in the game. On 1st and 10 from the 39, Purdue was hit with a holding call. On 1st and 20, O’Connell hit Jackson Anthrop for a gain of 7 yards. On 2nd and 13, O’Connell hit King Doerue for 6 yards. On 3rd and 7 from the PUR 42, O’Connell threw it deep and it was tipped by Cam Hart before being intercepted by DJ Brown. Notre Dame leads 27-13 with 1:21 left in the game.
