Every corner of this magnificent Buddhist stupa carries a heritage in itself. Wholly, this heritage site is a must visit in Kathmandu. There are cafes and restaurants where you can sit, sip a coffee and enjoy the majesty of this ancient monument. You spin the prayer wheel with your right hand as you circle the temple clockwise. There are pilgrims who travel far and wide to be at this one of Buddhism's most important site.

Visited twice during my stay, once in the evening when it was not at all crowded and the second during daytime, with lot of rush. But the queue is maintained well, the guards are strict, which is needed. Has a large premise, so take time to soak in the energy. People with some sort of Nepali SBI receipt had a separate queue and darshan. Would have got it, had I known in advance.

Most of the reviews all talk about the same thing. Touristy, overpriced items, trekking, etc. I'm going to tell you things you will NEED to know while you're in Kathmandu. 1, expect stomach issues. I've been religious about bottled water, eating cooked food, etc., and I'm still having issues. So, plan on it. Bring Pepto, Imodium, etc. And something like Preparation H, because you will wipe yourself raw. Which leads me to my next point. 2, you will likely find yourself out and about and have to use a public/restaurant restroom. They vary from ok to disgusting. Two of the ones I had to use didn't have toilet paper... only the squirt nozzle. Put a pack of the flushable moist wipes in your backpack and carry them with you. You'll thank me later. 3, while Nepalese food doesn't seem as spicy as Indian food, ask if you aren't sure, especially if spicy food isn't your thing. They can accommodate. If you just go with it as is, well, reference numbers 1 and 2 (no pun intended). 4, do not be afraid to haggle. The best technique I've found is to throw out what you want to pay, and if they say anything but ok, act a bit angry and walk out. I've even said "you're a scammer" and "you're trying to steal from me". Suddenly the price for a candle holder went from $55 to $25. I still didn't buy it because he did try to scam me. 5, expect to pay entrance fees for any historical site. Usually NPR1000 (about $7.50). Some are worth it, some are tourist money grabs. If you've seen one Durbar Square, you've seen them all. Hiking Trails through the woods aren't worth $7.50 in my opinion because they are not kept up, with trash everywhere. 6, Nepal doesn't have Uber, but InDrive worked very well here. You have to pay cash when you take the trip, so be sure to have the right change. Pretty inexpensive and the drivers didn't try to weasel more money out of me. If they do, tell them no (I yell at them "why did you accept the trip then?") , and call for another. 7, don't take any nonsense from anyone. They know we try not to be rude and don't ask questions. They also know we have money, and haggling isn't in our culture. Don't let them take advantage of you.

Have fun, bring wipes and Pepto, and enjoy Kathmandu. It was WAYYYY better than any city in India (I was in Mumbai, Jaipur, and Jodhpur before KTM)

The friendliest people I have come across are in Nepal and in Phewa Taal in Pokhara, they are even friendlier. Water quality of Fewa Lake is among the best I have come across in all my travels. You should spend at least half day riding the boat. Bring a good book, a cold cut sandwich. You can simply drink the water from the lake with no issues at all.

Excellent sunrise view from top of Sarangkot. Good view of Annappurna and Machapuchare Mountains. Got to see the town from top of the place. Windy place to visit at early morning.

Perhaps the oldest monarchy in the Kathmandu valley, Baktapur is enroute to Nagarkot from Kathmandu.
Rather a sprawling expanse of very old palace complex, temples, stupas and museum, one needs atleast a day to soak in the many sights and sounds.
Many buildings were renovated after the rather frequent earth quakes in Nepal.
The older, original wood works are pitch black in colour and the renovated wood works are almost sandal wood colour.
The malla kings who ruled the city brought in their unique dress code of black and red.
The museum is a must visit while you are in the city.
Most of the so-called tourist guides are in fact petty shop keepers interested in selling various artifacts rather than showing around the place.

So, do not engage any guides.

Must visit while you are in Kathmandu.
    Recommended.

Busy historic site with a lot of activity. Small entry fee for foreigners (1000 NPR) Lots of offers of guides and in hindsite we should maybe have got one to give us some of the detail and history.

5 out 5 - Beautiful views and very peaceful. We paid for a boat and driver from Pokhara to Pagoda Peace Temple.

We hiked up about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Make sure to bring the correct foot wear. There is a stop off for a shop to get some water about 20 minutes into the hike.

When you successfully hike to the top you can enjoy views and get a coffee in the mountain cafe.

We came here twice to meet with friends. On a hot day when the air quality is bad it is amazing to slip within these walls into the green park and gardens. On both days it was quite busy, with lots of families and young couples visiting. Anyone with an interest in botany will find plenty here to keep them occupied. I particularly enjoyed looking out for the little squirrels that make their home here.

The colours are amazing. The night sky is full of stars. Morning and evening colours are undescribably adorable. Mid morning and afternoon azure sky is something to behold. What more can I say?
