Beautiful town with its ancient architecture, alleys and churches. It had many restaurants, shops and bars. In the midst of an amazing beautiful scenery of the river and the mountains. Highly recommend it.

Kotor is a very beautiful city. We were in the old city. There are many cozy cafes and souvenir shops. Local residents also live in the old town. We visited the famous Kats of Kotor store and the old Catholic Church museum

I’ve seen my fair share of ancient city walls in my years of traveling, and Kotor’s walls surely rank up there, scoring particularly high marks for their modest size yet big charm. You can climb to the top of the walls in a few places, but doing so is not compatible with a wheelchair. The best ways to appreciate the walls are to view them aerially from the mountainside or to enter the old town through the iconic Sea Gate.

Amazing, beautiful Old Town. Very peaceful and quiet. Definitely on the more expensive side, I would recommend going outside of the Old Town for food as it is cheaper, but there were a few places that were reasonably priced.

I highly suggest visiting in November or at the start of March during a rainy period - in that case, you can see various streams and currents running through the cave - giving the idea of how various stalactites and stalagmites were formed over the years.

The story is that two brothers who were fishermen saw a picture of Mary and baby Jesus on a rock floating in the sea. They rescued the picture and took it to their home. Soon after one of the brothers who was sick was cured. They then decided to build a church where the painting had been found. But first they needed to build an island. So each time they went out on their fishing boat, they dropped a rock in the spot. The tale spread and other sailors did the same. It took over 200 years and the brothers had long passed away but an island was finally created and the church was built on the rock. The picture that had been found, was placed in the church and is still there today behind the beautiful altar. As sailors stopped by, they left a silver plate for a safe journey and those silver plates still decorate the church. The church is very beautiful especially the altar and the ceiling which is filled with paintings. The museum is upstairs. There is a portrait upstairs of Mary and Jesus embroidered by a captain’s wife with very fine needlepoint. She used her own hair to embroider the angel’s hair. It took her many years to finish the portrait and one can see her original black hair that was used and then her grey hair. There are also quite a few other items upstairs such as pottery, dishes, rifles, pots and pans, and such. You also can take some pretty nice pictures of the little town of Perast from the window. All in all, this is well worth the visit and I would visit Our Lady of the Rock again.

The tour guide said there are 1400 steps to the top. I didn’t count the steps, but it could easily have been 1400, there were a lot of steps. You pretty much need to walk the steps, as the ground is covered in large rocks that are difficult to walk on. You need to pay to walk up. I don’t recall how much, but I think less than 10 euros. The guy at the kiosk also takes credit cards. You also need to save your receipt as it is checked again on the way down – and if you do not have it, you need to pay again. You first reach an old church which was not open when we were there. You then pass ruins from the lower fortress. Go around to the right to find the stairs to continue walking up. You will then reach the second set of ruins. Continue some more to reach the top. When we were there, there was someone who apparently lugged a cooler with soft drinks, juice, and water to the top and was selling them. The views from the top are as amazing as you’d expect them to be. But if you can’t make it the entire way to the top, the views are wonderful all along the intermediate points as well. Be sure to wear good shoes and you really should bring enough water. We enjoyed the hike up and would do it again.

Great view, nice activities a place for the entire family. People walking on the bridge and taking selfies while traffic crosses is strange

Nice day trip, beautiful monastery. The mountains around are impressive. Nearby there is a Ottoman bridge which is nice to see.
