Lottery Winner Nets $4 Million In Ashburn
An Ashburn man won $4 million in a Virginia Lottery scratch-off game, "Hot Millions Multiplier." Srinivas Kalla chose the cash option.
ASHBURN, VA — Srinivas Kalla is a data analyst who lives in Sterling. As such, he probably knows both data and odds. As for the latter, when he recently bought a Virginia Lottery "Hot Millions Multiplier" scratch-off ticket, he surely knew his odds of winning the top prize were long. How long? Try 1 in 1,305,600.
No matter. When he began to scratch off the appropriate spaces, Kalla kind of knew he at least had won something. "My first thought was, 'Oh, maybe I won $5,000 or even $10,000,' " he told lottery officials last week. Well, turns out his ticket was worth a cool $4 million.

Kalla had the option of taking the $4 million over 30 years or an immediate $2.25 million before taxes. He chose the latter. He bought the ticket at Harris Teeter, 42415 Ryan Road in Ashburn. The store pocketed a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
