Brutally cold weather came during the busiest shopping week of the year, but it did not seem to stop Columbus shoppers from picking up their last-minute gifts on Christmas Eve Eve.

ABC6 /FOX28 met dozens of shoppers who braved the elements to get to the stores. Many of them said the roads weren't terrible.

"You just have to go slow," one shopper said. "Slow and steady but we were fine."

"The roads were fine! We live in Ohio, it's like this every year," another shopper said.

Other shoppers braved the elements with friends and family.

"We all carpooled together because I did not want to drive," a shopper said. "But the weather didn't scare us away. Family is more important! We got to get those presents."

For the many who hit the stores, their last-minute shopper venture proved to be successful.

"I always wait to the last minute. Every year, every time," said a shopper. "But it worked out. I got a bunch of clothes. Some candy, cereal, a little bit of alcohol. You know, the essentials."

"I just got a puffer jacket for my daughter. And some Tums because we had too much eggnog," another Columbus shopper said.
