The Gathering: Trucks circling for Baltimore’s first food truck rally

The Gathering, Baltimore’s first food truck rally, is set for next Friday night in Harbor East. Baltimore’s fleet of shiny, happy food trucks will gather on July 8, from 5 to 10 p.m. on the lot at 421 Central Avenue.

The newly formed food-truck consortium was considering a rally for the Fall, but Damian Bohager, whose new Silver Platter truck has taken up semi-permanent residence at the Central Avenue site, pulled the Gathering quickly. Confirmed for the rally are Kooper’s Chowound Burger Wagon, Miss Shirley’s, Iced Gems, Souper Freak, GrrChe and Gypsy Queen. You can find more information on the Silver Platter Facebook page.

The Gathering will give people who don’t come into daily or weekly contact with the food trucks a chance to sample them all in one place. For food-truck regulars, it’s a fever dream. Beer and wine will be for sale at the event, which is a benefit for the There Goes My Hero Foundation.

Rallies like this one can be either an alternative or a supplement to on-street food truck operations. They’re the big thing right now in Portland, where weekend truck rallies have become destinations. If this event goes well, Bohager says, the Gathering could turn into monthly event.
