I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible care and attention my cat Trudy received at Balboa Pet Hospital. Recently, I brought her in with concerns about a potential UTI, and the entire experience was nothing short of exceptional.
From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us warmly, and what really amazed me was that they remembered us from our previous visits. As a pet owner, it's incredibly reassuring to know that your pet's healthcare providers genuinely care about them and their well-being.
Trudy is quite shy and often gets anxious in new environments, but the team at Balboa Pet Hospital handled her with such patience and gentleness. They made sure she felt comfortable and secure throughout the entire examination process.
What truly stood out was their commitment to promptly addressing my concerns. They understood how worried I was about Trudy and made it a priority to get answers as soon as possible. The thoroughness of their examination and their willingness to go the extra mile to ensure Trudy's health and comfort truly touched my heart.
Thankfully, Trudy didn't have a UTI, but regardless, I left Balboa Pet Hospital with complete peace of mind knowing that my fur baby had received the best possible care. I cannot recommend them highly enough to fellow pet owners. Thank you, Balboa Pet Hospital, for your professionalism, compassion, and dedication to the well-being of our beloved pets.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katelyn C.Oakland, CA345Jan 26, 2024
We took our senior dog in for his annual checkup and a teeth cleaning. We couldn't be happier with the care and dedication the entire staff showed to us and our boy. We feel so lucky to have such a high quality and caring veterinary office in our neighborhood. Our appointments have been on time and not too long and not too short. Our questions are always answered in full and we have never felt rushed. It is clear that the entire staff want what's best for your furry family member.

Like all the other recent 1 star reviews, this is not the same pet hospital I've been going to for the past 2 decades.
Staff constantly changing, vets always changing, the doctors really don't seem to care about your concerns and just brush off things as the dog will be fine, but if anything worsens just let us know.
They don't even do 3rd party prescriptions anymore (thanks for letting your clients know balboa. A simple email as often as you send newsletters for people to buy your overpriced scripts through your pharmacy would've let me know to not even select this as my vet). So in order to get your medicine, you have to go into balboa pet hospital yourself, get the paper, and then mail it back to chewy in an envelope with a stamp all ghetto like. No fax? Nothing?
I go into the office 3 days after the email tells me to pickup the piece of paper for my prescription. The 2 receptionists in front have no clue about my prescriptions and then informs me that it will be 24-48 hours for me to pick up my piece of paper. Since chewy "never" contacted them even though gotten trifexis over 4 times in the past 2 year the same way, before they stopped 3rd party scripts. So then they said they'd get that for me and to come back in 2 days.
I wait another 2 days and go back in and the receptionist doesn't even remember me as I ask for my prescription. They couldn't find my paper cause they never even started the request . So one of the receptionists says that they'll ask for the doctor to get one for me right away. Wow! So I don't have to wait 48 hours for a piece of paper?
Just go to arguello pet hospital. Don't waste your time here or your pets livelyhoods. They even used to have a wall with all the pets names that come in or are clients. Not anymore. The head Vet has changed so many times in the past few years.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kit E.Daly City, CA010Feb 22, 2023Updated review
BPHospital staff takes good care of our dog Beau. Shout out to Dr. D, she takes her time with Beau's check-up over the years and listens to any questions or concerns we have. Much aloha!

This is NOT the same Balboa hospital I have patronized for 3 decades. As the result of a corporate buyout (Blue River) their protocol and priorities have changed for the worse. Their bottom line is their only priority. Their patients and clients are just fodder for profit and exploitation.
When this "buyout" took place I was never informed of the dramatic changes in staff and procedures I had grown to rely on for years. Costs have skyrocketed and follow up care and concern are non existent.
If you look at the of the staff photo which appears on their website only Dr. Del Rosso remains. She has always been great but is now forced to adhere to new corporate procedures which, in my opinion, amount to ethical violations of veterinary care.
Do your research. It a veterinary hospital falls under the Blue River umbrella, I would suggest that you keep looking.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Holly L.San Francisco, CA02228Aug 9, 2019
My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Coco, was badly burned during a dental procedure at Balboa Pet Hospital in December 2018.
Dr. Del Rosso, who conducted the procedure, denied any responsibility. When I brought Coco back to the pet hospital one week after the procedure, after open sores had developed on her groin and over the right side of her body, she suggested that she had been attacked by a raccoon. She told me they were lacerations. Disbelief.
At the time, it had never occurred to me that an animal could be burned during a dental procedure. Apparently, a heating pad is used to maintain animal body temperature. I brought Coco back to Balboa Pet Hospital a second time after her supposed lacerations were diagnosed and confronted Dr. Del Rosso. She was hostile, self-righteous and accusatory.
I took Coco to an emergency vet hospital. They diagnosed Coco with severe burns over her entire right side, on her back and on her groin. She was treated with antibiotics, burn cream, pain medication. She was shaved and remained in a cone and protective body suit for the next 5 months.
I was physically ill when I learned the truth of what happened. That Coco had been cooked on a heating pad while she slept. I was astonished by Dr. Del Rosso's cruelty. Even after Coco was properly diagnosed by the SF SPCA Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Del Rosso still denied any responsibility. I asked for her to pay for Coco's emergency care and to refund the dental, which cost over $2,000. She refused to refund the dental.
The sad truth is that dogs have no rights. I hired an attorney and the only recourse was an agreement from the insurance company to pay the emergency vet fees. The release read, "We hereby release, acquit and forever discharge Paul Clary and Alice K. Clary dba: Balboa Pet Hospital and Dr. Lea Del Rosso (hereinafter referred to as "Veterinarians and Facility") and all other persons and entities acting on behalf of either of them."
I did not sign it and or take payment.
I was disgusted. How could a veterinary hospital inflict this level of harm with a sole focus on their best interests, with zero regard for the life and well being of the animal?
It is impossible to express my level of anguish over this. I was so sickened, sad, angry and I felt helpless. And there was nothing I could do in defense of Coco.
Coco survived her injuries. Dogs are amazingly resilient. But I do not forgive what Dr. Del Rosso did. Her behavior is unconscionable.Helpful 28Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Cera D.San Francisco, CA3434Nov 6, 2021
I found a cat on the street in San Francisco, and came here to check her microchip. What began as a routine attempt to find the owner of this missing cat turned into discovering she had worms, and Ryan was incredibly helpful and knowledgable in assisting me to get the cat in for treatmeant at the last minute and fit me in for a drop off appointment on a weekend day, as well as providing me advice for what to do after finding a stray cat. All of the staff was very kind in assisting me as an inexperienced pet carer/owner, and I'm very glad they were able to help me on what turned out to be an eventful day.

This vet is completely driven by greed and does not care at all about the well being of your pet. Not only are they the priciest vet in SF but they refused to give me a prescription for antibiotics for my 11year old cat who they have been seeing for her entire life! I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars with this vet over the course of 11 years ( Dr. Starfinder Stanley) and she had a life threatening tooth infection and he refused to see her or write a prescription for antibio
tics. He was rude and condescending and said he had been working long days and couldn't help me!! This is just totally unacceptable and I only wish that that the many thousands of dollars I spent with this greedy jerk would have gone to a doctor who has a soul.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Zorah B.San Francisco, CA03Sep 9, 2022
