This is a wonderful trip that takes about a half day. From Tucson, the top of the mountain is about 27 miles of well-tended twisting roads. There are many viewing sited as well as places to stop and park. For the energetic, there are also many hiking trails to follow. The scenery is fantastic. The road ends at a small town with some shops and eateries. There is also the opportunity to ride a small open ski lift for about $17 at the top. This is certainly something that gives the viewer an excellent sampling of the countryside.

This was just good old-fashioned fun. We arrived an hour before the show, so we could get drinks and dinner before the show. Pizza, chicken strips, and hot dog were good; cocktails were very good. We ordered a Banana Split Extravaganza and 4 forks, which the server delivered at intermission. It was so tasty, and just the right size for the four of us. The show and the after-show were very fun, and good for all ages. We wished we had such an entertaining place as this in our town.

This park has two sections: one on the east and one on the west of Tucson. Both have ranger stations where activities may be planned. Both also have facilities, gift shops, and educational displays. An interpretive film is helpful in learning about the area. For those not wishing to hike, there are circular drives that bring the viewer through prime Sonoran desert ecosystems. All is professionally done.

The only reason I lowered my stars is the price. Fortunately, we have a senior pass that allows free entry. Otherwise, the charge is $20 per car. That seems pricely for an 8 or 5 mile drive. While the National Park has prime scenery, it is no different from other area parks and hillsides that have the exact same variety which can be viewed for free.

We visited the canyon in the mid morning. In April, it was cool and pleasant - bring a hat and maybe a jacket. As photographers know, the light is best in the morning and evening. The same is true here. The shadows on the mountains pop in the early morning light.

When we were there. the parking lot was already full. Being a federal facility, we could use our Senior Pass. There are also vending machines to get a day pass for $8. The visitor center is impressive with stone and natural materials. There is a little shop and the park staff could answer all our questions. They gave us good advice about the trails that would suit our energy level.

There is also a third party shuttle service that leaves every half hour. For $15 you can board a huge covered "golf cart" that traverses the length of the canyon on a 45 minute tour.

We started on one trail and then veered off to avoid groups that were ahead of us. I think all the trails must be good. On the Rattle Snake trail, we did see a snake, several birds and a wonderful array of cacti and wild flowers on a well groomed gravel trail. We had to keep going so we branched off on another trial and before we knew it we had our 10,000 steps in. We are staying in the area so will plan to return so see more of this wonderful place.

Too much info. there to put in a review! Many exhibits in about 5 hangars, ranging from the people who were in the military service in various wars, and so many, various airplanes, of course. There were volunteers in each hangar, giving info. or answering questions. Outside there were alot of airplanes as well. Unfortunately due to the highly, windy day it was, we couldn't stop to look at them in detail! My favourite part, were the airplanes that had the painted plane fronts (nose art), and they were named and a maybe a brief message, regarding the pilot of the plane. Many were womanly figures or cartoon characters. Professional art painters did the jobs. We spent about 3 hours at the museum.

Tucson was such a wonderful trip! First time and we loved it! Stayed at El Conquistador, had a surprisingly good hike at Linda Vista trails nearby (perfect for young kiddos), rode ATVs with Tucson Adventure Rental, caught a UofA softball game and wrapped it up with the Sabino Canyon crawler and additional hiking. Views were incredible, food was great! Weather could’ve been a bit better, rain and a little chilly, but otherwise can’t wait to come back to this slow and relaxed pace. Perfect getaway!

When you want a break from all the beautiful hikes around the area, this scenic drive in the Rincon mountain district is perfect!
Seeing all the saguaro cactus and the many other types of cacti is inspiring.
There are pullouts along this 8 mile route so you can get out of your car and take in the views and some photos.

We just loved the beautiful gallery grounds, which reflect the art, soul and creativity of Ted De Grazia. There are small buildings and gardens to explore, a main gallery, even a chapel. Various art everywhere, all against the spectacular backdrop of the Santa Catalina Mountains. De Grazia was close to the Tohono O'Odham people, formerly called Papago, and his art reflects this connection. We left uplifted and inspired.

Amazing place. You travel through different levels of growth up to the picnic area, with trails of varying degree of difficulty everywhere. Watch for deer when driving as we saw five and almost clipped one. Gift shop with bird feeder is certainly worth a stop to check out all the bird activity. Does cost $8 to enter but park pass is acceptable. Certainly gets you away from the desert into a cooler area with lots of large trees. Can overnight in campground or a few B & B's.

Arrive as early as you can. We got there around 9:30am. There are some new exhibits to the right of the entry gates. My kids loved the indoor Packrat Playhouse. There is a seating area with water and snacks so that parents can rest while the kids play. Our favorites were the hummingbird garden and the aviary. Sit and rest while the birds fly around you... We ate lunch at the Ocotillo Cafe which was lovely. I'll be back again!

My son and I visited the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center on our recent visit to Saguaro. The Rincon Mountain section is in the east unit of the park on the opposite side of Tucson from the more visited west unit. We enjoyed visiting this side of the park and learned a lot about the Saguaros here. The visitor center was helpful and we always appreciate talking to rangers about the park.

Beautiful scenery with many different hiking trails to choose from. My wife and I did the Canyon Loop on a beautiful March morning. The trail was just the right length and difficulty for two novice hikers. The views at certain points are truly breathtaking.
