Former Greenville County Sheriff Will Lewis is out of prison after serving his full sentence for misconduct in office. Public records from the South Carolina Department of Corrections show Lewis was released on April 1.A jury convicted Lewis in October 2019 and Judge G. Thomas Cooper Jr. sentenced him to the maximum sentence of one year in prison.Lewis was charged after the then-sheriff took a 2017 budget trip to Charlotte, during which he had sex with his assistant at the time, Savanah Nabors. Lewis testified the sex was consensual. Nabors testified that after a night of drinking, the two went back to her hotel room and she woke up with Lewis having sex with her. Nabors filed a civil lawsuit against Lewis in October 2017. A settlement was reached in October 2018. Nabors was paid nearly $100,000 from a state insurance fund in May 2019.Lewis' attorney, Rauch Wise, appealed the conviction, but that appeal was denied in August 2021.After the appeal was denied, Wise filed a petition for a rehearing.That petition was denied in October 2021 and Lewis returned to prison to serve the remaining six months left on his sentence.
