Aaron was born in either Illinois or Missouri. It is possible that he moved to California by 1880, leaving his wife and two children behind in Illinois (who are listed in the 1880 census without him), as there is a Louis Rountree age 45 born Illinois living in Colusa County, California around that time. However, the Nashville [Illinois] Journal published an obituary on May 24, 1895, which said "Louis Rountree who has been a resident of the city for a long time, died at the residence of Mrs. Rhine on last Monday evening [May 20, 1895]. The remains were buried in Three Mile last Wednesday." "Mrs. Rhine" undoubtedly refers to his widowed mother-in-law, who indeed lived near Three Mile Prairie. The Rhines owned property around the vicinity and are buried in the what is now known as the Concord Cemetery, just north of the southern Washington County line. So it is more than probable that "Three Mile" refers to the Concord Cemetery, though it would be great if a local historian could confirm this assumption.
