Rodney Mullen, the man, myth and legend, has done it again. Twelve years since his last release, today he dropped "Liminal," a psychedelic edit of skate artistry that screams signature Mullen creativity.
From Vogue: "Rodney Mullen, who three decades ago invented many of the tricks on which modern skateboarding is based, steps inside fashion photographer Steven Sebring’s revolutionary 360 studio for his first major release of footage in 12 years, including several never seen before moves."
The part was as anticipated as they come in skateboarding, and it lived up to all the hype. It's pushed the genre beyond what we're used to. See for yourself:
Last week, Mullen announced the part was coming right here on RedBull.com, where we took a deep dive into the technology and strategy behind one of the most anticipated edits in years. Read more about everything "Liminal" right here.
"It is a gorgeously seamless stream of maneuvers, a piece of unique media that appropriately matches Mullen’s unparalleled level of technical ability."
Cole Louison
The new video was shot in "4D" by Sebring, an award-winning photographer, filmmaker and creator of what he calls the "revolution system," a silver, 24-foot igloo-looking dome that is best described as "a camera you go inside of." That is, the subject (Mullen) stands in the center of the dome and is shot via 100 surrounding cameras from every imaginable angle.
The edit takes a few viewings to even begin to comprehend, but you might as well take the time to sink your teeth into it — it could be a decade or more until we get another one from Sir Rodney.
