Biography

Rebekah Diggs was born in about 1761 in Virginia. She was the daughter of William Diggs and Judith Haley. She is listed with her parents living in Richmond City, Virginia, in the Minitess, of the Richmond and Cedar Creek monthly meetings of the Quaker's on Nov 12, 1768, as

Agreeable to order of last meeting Nickolas Stone produced a Certificate for William Diggs and his wife Judeth and six Children to wit, Sarah, Rebacer, Agnes, William, Pleasent and Martha Diggs. Which was read approved and signed accordingly. [1]

Rebekah married John Moorman May 3, 1783 in North Carolina.[2] John Moorman and Rebekah Diggs were disowned by the Quakers because they were considered to be too close kin to have married. John's mother and Rebekah's grandmother were sisters, making John and Rebekah first cousins once removed./They were dismou. (too near Kin) in may 3, 1783.[3] Children of Rebekah and John Moorman:

  1. Anna Moorman (1786-)
  2. Achsah Moorman (1786-1859)
  3. Judith Moorman(1790-1831)

  5. Julia Moorman (1804-1889)
  6. John Moorman (1807-1860)
  7. Wilson Moorman (1810-)

She is thought to have died in 1788 at the age of 28, in Rockingham, Richmond, North Carolina. Yet she is listed with 8 children making her death after 1840 as in that year's Census.[4]
