Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF)

The United States District Court for the District of Colorado welcomes you to electronic case filing. E-filing is comprised of two separate components: a filing component known as Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) and a viewing component known as Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER). PACER users can access case and docket information online from any federal appellate, district, or bankruptcy court. With the court’s transition to NextGen software, e-filers must log into their PACER account and then select the District of Colorado’s CM/ECF system to file in this court. CM/ECF allows registered users to not only file electronically, but also receive email notice that documents have been filed in their case. With occasional exceptions for periodic maintenance, CM/ECF is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To file documents electronically using CM/ECF, a registered PACER user must first request e-filing privileges with the court. Only the court can permit e-filing privileges to a user. A PACER user does not have to register as an CM/ECF user to view documents online, but CM/ECF registration is required should the user wish to file electronically into a case.

The following resources provide insight as to how e-filers may navigate within these systems.
