A good job to have to take of a family

Work was different each and every day. While working at UCC, we would get to meet different people that didn’t work in the same department with us. A person would get to learn a great deal with hands on doing a job.

Pros

The overtime

Cons

Benefits

It was different world 35-40 years ago

Since my experiences are from 1977 to 1983, I do not think they would be relevant in today's world, but Union Carbide was a good company to work for back then.

Company no longer exists

Not sure how to review a company that quit existing about 20 years ago. Though it was far above their competitors in their technology, they lacked the marketing/sales skills to overcome the safety tragedy in India.

Great company

My experience with Union Carbide was a great one. There was a family atmosphere and lasting friendships. I don't want to bash Dow, but that was a totally different work environment. I stayed with Carbide after the Dow merger until I hit 50 years of age. I took early retirement and left the company to pursue other interest in the Safety World. Union Carbide promoted me to Safety in 1996 and I loved it and thank them for the opportunity. I am still working safety to this day and I love it!

Pros

Time off

Cons

Working nights.weekends

Enjoyed creating experiments.

I learned the wire and cable industry. I enjoyed working with others. Safety was top priority. I ran experiments . I ran the R&D Stock Room. Occasionally, you had to come up with new ways to do the same experiments. Trained other technicians in the labs and in the monthly safety meeting.

Pros

Good working conditions

Cons

You had to get used to working with some people.

Fun place to work

This was a short time job. I enjoyed the carbide direct employees. They treated us contractors just like one of their own. I was given much respect for my job. Hated it when it was time to leave.

Pros

Fun place to work due to atmosphere

Cons

Too short time here

Not a bad place to work

I was only a contractor, so I can't really say much about Union Carbide. My manager was overall nice guy, but didn't really know much about the project I was working on because it was being driven by Global IT group.

Pros

Reasonable place to work

Cons

Sometimes a little chaotic

A great learning experience

Union Carbide was the type of company that treated its employees like family. There were Summer camps for the kids, a softball team, an onsite gym, and more. The had high standards for quality, expected a strong work ethic, and rewarded their employees for a job well done.

A good company to work for.

Union Carbide provided me with great career opportunities for the entire time I worked for them. I left only to become part of a large oil company - a move that turned out to be a great career move.

Pros

Good sound company

Cons

Midstream company

Great experience. Research is a blast!

Conducted experiments expanding chemistry technology. Learned tons about chemistry, pilot plants, process automation. Coworkers team players. Hardest Part of Job? Mmmmm Mmmmm. None that I can think of. Most enjoyable part creating new molecules and finding better ways to make chemical processes happen. Also full support of management to get projects done.

Pros

Creative release.
