It's a Trucking Job

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
First of all, it depends on what account you're on. Do your homework on the pay scales, ask your recruiter to see some pay stubs. What the recruiter tells you that you're gonna make and what you do make are certainly guaranteed to be two very different things. If you're on the Family Dollar Account, be prepared to go to and deliver to some of the smallest, riskiest locations you've ever seen. Also be prepared for a constant fluctuation in work quantity. The benefits here are stupid expensive, on average, if you're covering a family, in the ballpark of $700-$800/month.Their NE terminal(Carlisle PA) is a sad excuse for a terminal. Atlanta is new and amazing. Ohio is...okay. Idk about the rest. If you gotta get your truck fixed, plan on being down for a minimum of a full day.The turnover rate here is extremely high.Getting ahold of basically any department is next to impossible. Plan to be on hold for 30-40 minutes.Equipment ranges from 2019-2024 atm

Pros

Driver Managers

Cons

Expensive Benefits, Terminal conditions, Hometime, Communication, Management

It was ok if you don't mind doing other people's job to be safe.

What is the best part of working at the company?I was driving shuttle so I could care for my grandson. Bad part was so few drivers knew about weight limits, pretrips, posttrips, where to put the tandems, how to move them and management didn't seem to care. Some didn't know how to check the oil or even lower a hood. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Lack.of holding other drivers responsible for doing their jobWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company?"Don't bother me" seemed to be their attitude. They did have a couple really great dispatchers but not manyWhat is a typical day like for you at the company?I don't work there anymore. I would pick up.a trailer, usually had to get it fixed as shop closed at 3pm. Then I would head out.

Great place to work, great colleagues, good pay

I enjoyed my 3 years working with USA truck now DB Schnecker.Typical day consisted of mainly drop and hooks, had about 2-3 loads most days.Vast majority of my truck driving career happened at USA, so they’ve taught me a lot.My management was great, also worked with me when I needed to be off even if it was short notice sometimes. Could always reach somebody. If needed. Hardest part about the job, don’t really have one for this relatively easy company. Long as you do your job. Most enjoyable was going back to the places I frequented and having them remember me. And actually being happy to see me.

It’s A job but not to bad

Like any other trucking company, having the load board is a plus, but could definitely pay drivers more. But Ok Company, management is cool, trucks are ok.

Good for fresh graduates

Poor pay for anyone with experience. Dispatchers are ok. At least mine was. Mechanic shop in ATL sucks. Slow trucks 63 mph. Can’t seem to get you home on time.

Solid company

Hired me right out of schooling and was a great decision for me. Great managers and great staff all around. Loved working here and I’ll never talk bad about them.

Good until you feel like you are done and burned out.

What is the best part of working at the company? You make a few friends who are in the office and trying not to be too busy with trying to make things better. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Mainly trying to explain to someone that I went through burnout in June before my accident in Indiana in September. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The work was as good as any other trucking company as you can get the miles as long as you are dependable. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Varies from one to another. If everything is pleasant, you will be fine.

Decent but low pay.

Good company and they'll work with you on alot of stuff, but the pay is kinda garbage, but they do offer good benefits. If your safety oriented and good with 1k take home then it might be a good fit.

Decent Company

Newer Equipment, good home time but poor communication. The company was bought out so there are a lot of new policies that you have to keep up with because some are zero tolerance.

Decent Company

If you run, you will make money. Had truck and trailer uses that caused downtime often. A few issue with loads, despite being drop and hook. If you have a good DM, you will get miles. Beware of DM changes without notice.

Reactive and poor communication

USA Truck is extremely reactive to issues. They do not have the most modern technology in the industry. The load board is antiquated. They are unorganized and dysfunctional at times. Phones go down frequently. Also, took down the Facebook page for Owner/Operators without notice.

Fun and Lots of Loads

Great starter company, only thing I didn't like was the runs to New York but the experience was fun. Definitely has plenty of loads to keep you busy, I was able to save up 10,000 as a new company drive in two months.

Local

I was on the local pods account. The account wasn’t that bad and dispatch was okay. Pay was decent, guaranteed pay was good for when there was lack of loads but was available.

This is a good company to start out with

What is the best part of working at the company?Trucks are maintained when you have a problem they are quick to have to problem solved What is the most stressful part about working at the company? When calling in to speak to Dispatch, most of the time it takes over an hourWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company? It’s laid-back and casual, but professional as wellWhat is a typical day like for you at the company?Wake up, go pick up a load then drive to deliver load and wait to pick up another load

horrible communication skills, and from my experience they dont care about their company drivers when they are in certain situations

some days you get great miles then they claim they are getting you a load that never come and then when they get you a load it is 95 total miles with a late delivery appointment at night whit nowhere to park which puts the driver in a position to park on the side of the road or on an off/ on ramp which is not safe. I learned that this company may put you in a position to do what you have to do even if it is not safe according to the Department of Safety. Management is for the company and not the drivers. The culture of this company does is not based in integrity. The hardest part about this job is getting them to respond to the drivers needs in a timely manner. I enjoy over the road driving.

Pros

When the driver manager actually looks out for the safety of the drivers

Cons

How driver manager put the drivers in a position to get terminated by parking on off/ on ramps

Productive

What is the best part of working at the company? My DM always kept me busy. There was always freightWhat is the most stressful part about working at the company?Only cause I was impatient but it was the breakdowns for meWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company? It was a good work environment for me

Low pay

Low pay, not enough freight in the market for this company. Cancel loads constantly which screws up your whole week as all the good loads are taken by the time they tell you a load is cancelled

Great company

We are currently company drivers switching to Owner/Opp with USA Truck and are fairly happy with the company and loads. Miles are decent and the flexibility seems good as a company driver.
