Simple
Field Service Technician (Current Employee) - Madison, WI - May 18, 2023
Job is pretty simple! You make decent money it, and you outside all day! You go from house to house updating utility meters. Only bad part is the weather some days. But other than that Can’t complain!
Pros
Working by yourself
Cons
Not much

Easy and fun
Meter Reader (Former Employee) - Mill Creek, WA - January 27, 2023
It is a very easy job where you just walk around all day reading meters. The management tries to make you go faster but as long as your trying you should be fine

wishy washy
Meter Technician (Former Employee) - Montana - August 26, 2022
We as the crew were not kept in the loop on how much work we had left. In fact it was purposefully obfuscated only to be warned aday prior of layoff.

The hours and schedule are the only things decent
Field service tech (Current Employee) - Denver, CO - January 3, 2022
Management is terrible most wont even help. They don’t even train you fully and expect you to exceed the expectations. They ask about your medical and personal time off where they shouldn’t. They curse and say a lot they shouldn’t towards employees
Pros
Set schedule and offer way to make up time
Cons
They will belittle you and push you into working even though your sick, have personal reasons, or anything.

Low Moral, Huge Workload, 6 Days a week is the usual.
Meter Reader (Former Employee) - Mountlake Terrace, WA - December 14, 2019
You start at $16/hour and the first few days is watching videos, doing paperwork and practicing reading meters. Your first day in the field you do nothing but ride with a supervisor and watch them, this day is mostly spent on the road chatting and making you think the job is kind of easy. The next 3 days you ride and read meters with a trainer. By day two they expect you to be as fast as a person who's been doing it for years. If you're not they start chewing you out and not subtly threatening your employment. After 3 days of training you're on your own. Most weeks Saturdays are mandatory and you'll get time and a half if you didn't call out on any of the weekdays. Some routes are ok, some are hard as he'll. Be prepared to walk 15 miles in the rain and run from big angry dogs on the worse days. I quit after learning why I was covering a guys route. He got mauled by a dog and they wouldn't say how badly. I hope he's ok. Oh, after 3 months there your pay caps out at $19 an hour. Even if you stay for multiple years.

Decent Job
FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN (Current Employee) - Danville, KY - May 26, 2019
Field Service Tech responsible for non climbing electric meter work. Perform meter turn on/offs, meter rereads, meter exchanges and load meter tests. Techs cover defined areas and work in all types of weather. No one looking over your shoulder as long as you do your job and do give reason for audits. Company understanding of family life and issues. Only 1 week of vacation, but would let you off work with almost no issues as long as you explained why time-off needed.
Pros
Company understanding of Family life.
Cons
No raises.

This is a temporary position with very low pay.
FIELD TECHNICIAN (Former Employee) - Henderson, CO - September 18, 2018
TruCheck is a subcontractor for Xcel Energy. It is a very low skill level company with no benefits for employees. Employees can purchase health insurance at a ridiculous cost in comparison to earning ability. Everyone is hired at minimum wage and there are no potential increases. The management is lower level, but they do their best to work with employees.
Pros
Energy company experience
Cons
Pay, career potential, benefits

Low pay, no advancement
Meter Reader (Former Employee) - Richmond, KY - January 9, 2018
You get paid by the meter. The more you read, the more you get paid. Everyone gets $21000 a year base salary. Some routes have more meters some less. There is NO opportunity for advancement.
