Fresh off the heels of yet another bad relationship, Tristan Brewer is taking a break from men to try and figure out where he keeps going wrong. He knows his biggest fault—he leads with his heart, not his head—and that’s never going to change. But after several introspective weeks, he’s beginning to get a handle on things. That is, until badass heartthrob Alex Wells walks into his bar…
Alex has spent eight years in the Army, months in a hospital bed, and far too long hiding his sexual identity. He’s guilt-ridden, damaged, pissed off, and up for a Silver Star—for the incident that nearly cost him his life, and kept him from his grandmother’s funeral. But all he wants to do is forget his stint with the institution that allows but doesn’t necessarily accept, and live the life he’s always dreamed of.
The chemistry between Tristan and Alex ignites from the moment they meet, and the more time they spend together the hotter the flames become. But the closer Tristan gets, the more Alex’s walls go up, and when the two walk onto a military base, Tristan finds out Alex’s physical scars aren’t the ones that run the deepest.

We were in for heavy rains, but hopefully they’d hold off until after closing time. I glance at the order. “Because of two rum and Cokes?”
She rolls her pretty green eyes. “No, Tristan. Because the hottest man on the planet just parked his motorcycle and he’s heading in here. All of my female customers are drooling, and I’m sure you’ll see a flock of them coming in any minute now. Meanwhile, I’m stuck outside and soon I’ll have a pier full of empty tables.” She grabs a handful of napkins and waves them at me with a smirk. “Drool rags.”
“Dibs,” Charley says as she whips up a cocktail.
I laugh and hold my hands up. “I’m on a hiatus from all things male, so be my guest.” My ex, Ian, is a self-absorbed ass, and I was an idiot for letting him treat me like shit. Which is why I’m taking a break from men―even if it kills me. It’s been weeks since we broke up and I moved into my buddy Wyatt’s house. Wyatt and his twin sister, Delilah, own the Taproom. They inherited it when their parents were killed in a car accident a little more than a year ago.
“I’m sure he’s straight anyway,” Livi says. “The guy swaggers like a stud.”
“Hey, gay guys can swagger like studs,” I tease.
“I know that.” Livi peers out the pass-through window to the outside seating area and tosses her blond hair over her shoulder. “You’ll see what I mean. He’s a total badass.”
I tend to my customers as the girls discuss the badass hot guy, and when the front door opens, I can’t help but let my eyes drift over. Livi and Charley fall silent, ogling what truly might be the hottest guy on the planet. Linebacker shoulders fill the doorframe. The godlike creature is carrying a shiny black motorcycle helmet in one very large hand. His white T-shirt is stretched so tight across his chest I can see every ripple of his shredded abs, and his deliciously defined biceps are seriously struggling to be set free from his short sleeves. Tear, baby, tear.
He steps inside and runs a hand through his dirty-blond hair. Deep-set, brooding eyes slide over the customers sitting at the bar, sweep over Charley and Livi, and finally land on me. Charley whimpers, and Livi makes a sound in the back of her throat, both mimicking what I’m feeling, though my mouth is too dry to make a sound.
He swaggers, full of hard-core attitude, to the vacant stool at the end of the bar, giving me a clear view of his perfect ass―and catching the attention of nearly every woman, and several of the men, in the place.

One complaint that almost made me take a star off is the constant use of outdated phrases like using p*ssy in the pejorative and the MCs thinking they need to “man up” and “grow a pair”. Because the book is first person and lots of folks still talk/think that way, I won’t ding the stars. But it would have been nice if *someone* in the book had called it out. Just to show some self-awareness on the author’s part.
We met Tristan Brewer in the previous books as a favorite. He was the gorgeous and loyal bartender at Wyatt and Delilah's inherited bar. He was in the middle of a relationship where his current boyfriend treated him poorly. Tempting Tristan began with Tristan single again and devoted to staying single for awhile. But the temptation was too great.
Alex Wells embodied gorgeous, strength and confidence. He was totally an alpha military persona but he had a soft gentle side that was shown only to Tristan or his close friends. He valued family, loyalty and honesty and he lived it. He suffered an injury where he tragically lost many men in his unit and ended his military career. Alex was always gay but had to hide it during the eight years he served. He was still experiencing baggage not only from his injury but from the secret life.
Tempting Tristan was told in a dual POV. I loved both Tristan and Alex; and I loved the relationship building. I also loved that they were both alpha and dominated for dominance, in a good way. Additionally, I loved their genuine acceptance of each other and how Tristan was able to get Alex through his demons from his military tragedy. It was emotional and a real connection. It was a true journey that Foster depicted on paper for us to experience alongside them.
Furthermore, I liked the conversations about Alex's furniture making and Tristan's rock gardens. The detail Foster utilized provided depth and dimension to the storyline. I also enjoyed Alex's perspective regarding being a gay man in the military. He was out of the military, but the impact and effects of hiding were long lasting and deep rooted struggles.
True to Foster's style, the same wonderful Harborside gang that we've come to love played a large role in the saga. The loyalty and bond shined through completely. We don't know the exact mate for Charlie, yet, but the stage was set for her story next with hopefully Brandon's following shortly after.
As final thoughts, Tempting Tristan was not my normal genre. I generally prefer having at least one female in the mix, regardless of the number of males. In fact, I had purposely skipped this in the series - not opposed to it and not my first, just not what I typically gravitate to and had it on my bookshelf for a future possibility. However, I thoroughly enjoyed Tristan and Alex's journey and was glad I ventured it now. I look forward to watching their continued development and seeing where Foster takes us next.
The chemistry between Tristan and Alex is OFF.THE.CHARTS! I love them as a couple. Two big, tough, hard-bodied guys who are soft as pudding on the inside. What's not to love? Plus, I'm a sucker for a man in uniform.
I have a lot of military family and my son is actually in the Army so in some ways my mind wanted to rebel against anything bad said against our military. And at first it kind of did because I almost felt there were things bordering on disrespect. I felt better when Tristan kept on Alex about what makes a hero. And I truly did understand Alex's thoughts and bad feelings as he had spent his military career hiding his true self...of course that left a bitter taste in his mouth. I shouldn't have worried as much as I did because, as usual, this author is a whiz at turning things around and showing a progression in the character's thoughts.
As for the continuity, I've made it known my reviews that continuity is a pet-peeve of mine. If the author and/or editors don't care enough to make sure the timeline adds up it seems disrespectful to the reader. And in this case it truly pained me that there were so many issues with the timeline since I love this author. An example (which isn't even the first instance in the book): beginning of the chapter references how busy Friday afternoons are at the bar, character goes home and talks to roommate who asks if he's bringing his guy to the party Tuesday...which would be 4 days away. He then explains how they invited people over for tomorrow. Ummm....tomorrow is Saturday, not Tuesday. There are multiple times this happen in the first half of the book. I'm so glad it got better in the last half of the book.
One other issue. A big deal is made when Alex first appears among the friends working at the bar that day because his is so gorgeous. He has such a commanding presence he can possibly be gay. What?!? I know the author probably used this scene to try to make a point about stereotypes, but by then having the gay character go along with this thought actually does the opposite. Why perpetuate a stereotype like this? I don't understand and I'm disappointed the author took this route.
The romance and story are so good they truly do override the bad things I have listed above. Alex has so much to deal with and Tristan is so sweet and patient. On the other hand, Tristan is very untrusting and unsure of his instincts and Alex helps him to see he deserves a wonderful relationship.
I was glad to see a bit more of the friends in this book than we did in the second book as I missed seeing them as much in the 2nd book of the series. I can't wait to read Brandon's story but I don't think he's next. I guess that just gives us more time to read his shenanigans.
Again, I love Melissa Foster's writing and this story sucked me in and held me captive. I just wish there were so many errors in the beginning.

.We are already familiar with Tristan I think it was during Catching Cassidy and Dicovering Delilah that we got to know him and I remember him having problems with his then boyfriend Ian, this was probably over a year ago and now we're reading all about Tristan in his own story.
With all the stories and series that this fabulous author has written, wether it be past or current everything always comes together brilliantly, there might be a time delay but you can always think back to a particular book and think oh yes I remember that and it all makes sense further down the line.
You instantly fall in love with this story it's totally inevitable with all the characters that we have come to love but it's Tristan's turn to shine.
With everyone scrambling over and trying to attract the attention of the rather hot mystery man standing at the end of the bar you could only wonder what all the fuss is about. It was a brilliant opening and once introductions had been made and the realisation had set in that 'Alex' was only interested in one person you couldn't help get a little excited.
Tristan and Alex both had issues for very different reasons but they were perfect for each other and Melissa Foster does what she does best and delivers yet again subtle messages and her wonderful words of wisdom she always incorporates these so naturally throughout her storylines.
Tristan and Alex ended up having a little more in common than originally thought, it was Alex's Grandmother Arty, we had her to thank, she really did bring them together...everything happens for a reason.
As the storyline continues so does Tristan and Alex's relationship, there are a few issues and a couple of misunderstandings but nothing they can't work through and they do, their love for each other is enough to go above and beyond for each other.
It makes you realise just how much people end up living a lie just to fit in or to conform all because they think they will be frowned upon, it's a miserable fact and this story highlights this very problem very well.
Amongst other things!! There are plenty of endearing and touching moments, I did feel a little sad that Alex's Mother wasn't at Alex ceremony but at least she showed up towards the end all happy as well.
Beautiful epilogue by the way thank you..!!
As for Tru Blue... I think that is going to be one hell of a read something different again and Dylan Bad... well those stories seem to get steamier by the minute... all on pre-order..
For anyone who enjoyed this M/M take a look at Ann Lister (The Rock Gods) series... superb.!
We meet Tristan Brewer, he’s had one bad relationship after another and has decided it’s time to take a break from men. He decides he has to change and not fall too quick. He’s lead with his heart and not his head in the past. Enter Alex Wells, he looks like your typical bad boy…. He’s spent the past 8 years in the Army. After being badly injured he spent several months in hospital and has time to think about his future. He decides to move to his Grandmothers place, sadly he was in hospital and unable to make it to her funeral. He moves into her house. He’s damaged, he’s angry, he’s guilty, he’s pissed off and wins the Silver Star Medal for the incident that nearly cost him his life….. He feel’s guilty and doesn’t want the award.
Alex walks into the Hotel that Tristan works at and sparks fly…… they are both smitten with each other… we follow the story of these two sexy guys… they both have demons to conquer…….. will love conquer all? Will Tristan and Alex get their HEA……… This was a lovely story that I enjoyed.
We've met Tristan lots of times in Harbourside and seen how his story begins, and how comfortable he is with his life and to see Alex, who is trying to come to terms with his life after suffering loss in the military and a change to civilian life, how they manage to find each other is beautifully written. Alex comes from a military background, has suffered an injury and finds it hard to let Tristan see that side of him. As their story progresses, Alex, with the help and love from Tristan, accepts himself and relaxes into life.
As with Melissa's stories, it is very easy to get caught up in the story and not put the book down. It's great to catch up with other friend from Harbourside too and see how their stories are progressing. I can't wait to return for the next instalment.
Alex has come to Harbourside to live and work from his recently deceased grandmother home. His grandmother spoke highly of Tristan and Alex wants to see him for himself. He didn't expect there to be a spark between them. Both men have big issues to overcome. Together they can take on anything.
this book blew me away completely as both men are so loving, well-rounded and totally hot males. I highly recommend this book to everyone, even if you are unsure of M/M romance. The love between these two men is very real and they support each other in everything they do which endeared them to me more. I now have two totally smoking hot book boyfriends so thanks Melissa Foster I love this book and Harbourside so very much.
