Tracy S. McCooey was a judge for Circuit 15 in Alabama.[1] She won re-election in 2010 for a term set to expire in 2016. However, McCooey retired in September 2014 due to the effects of multiple sclerosis.[2]

Education

McCooney received her J.D. degree from the University of Alabama.[3]

Career

In law school, McCooney was a warrant clerk. After leaving the FBI academy because of medical issues, McCooney joined the drug task force in Montgomery, Alabama. She then became an assistant district attorney for three years. Afterward, she served as the chief legal counsel for the Alabama State Employees Association.[3]

Approach to the law

McCooney pioneered the implementation of what is now known as "Restorative Justice."

She emphasizes how important the judge’s role is in transforming lives and how there is a need for action and connection outside the courtroom.[3][4]

McCooey was re-elected to Circuit 15 after running unopposed.[5]
