GR Police Issue Valor Awards

Police recognize officer efforts for 2011

[Editor's note: The Glen Rock Police Department recently held a ceremony for its officers, awarding members for valor. The following release was sent from the police department and is unedited spare minor style details.]

EXCEPTIONAL DUTY

D/SGT. ERIC REAMY & DET. JAMES CALASKI

In recognition of their outstanding performance while . Through the use of confidential informants as well as information obtained from concerned residents, enough evidence was developed to obtain a search warrant. A subsequent raid on April 18, 2011 resulted in the arrest of seven individuals as well as the recovery of 40 bags of marijuana, cocaine and heroin, a loaded handgun and $1,271 in cash.

APPREHENSION AWARDS

D/SGT. ERIC REAMY, SGT. ROBERT WOJTECKI, P.O. ADAM PYATAK & P.O. LUCAS DONEY

In recognition of their actions following the April 9, 2011 . These officers aided Wyckoff Officers following a high speed car chase and took part in the subsequent foot chase resulting in all four robbery suspects being apprehended.

Honorable mention is also made of the pursuing Officers from Wyckoff as well as Hawthorne & Ridgewood Police officers who took part in the apprehension.

SGT. RIGGIO, P.O. SCOTT, P.O. TROVER, P.O. SURDYKA & P.O. CARTER

In recognition of their outstanding performance on April 18, 2011 these officers were assigned to a task force assisting the Detective Bureau with the execution of a search warrant and the arrest of seven individuals. Recovered during this raid were 40 bags of marijuana, cocaine and heroin, a loaded handgun and $1,271 in cash.

Honorable mention is also made of Sgt. Ackermann, Sgt. Wojtecki, P.O. Ciaramella, P.O. Pyatak, and P.O. McGovern & P.O. Yang and the Bergen County Police SWAT Team under the command of Lt. Devine who provided supporting assistance.

P.O. SCOTT

In recognition of his performance on May 19, 2011 where he initiated a motor vehicle stop which ultimately lead to the arrest of a Kingston N.Y. woman, for possession of 80 bags of heroin with the intent to distribute and tampering with evidence.

Honorable mention is also made of Sgt. Frank Riggio, P.O. Michael Trover, P.O. Greg Carter and P.O. Shane Broglia, Ridgewood PD

SGT. RIGGIO, DET. CALASKI, P.O. SCOTT & P.O. CARTER

In recognition of their outstanding performance on June 30, 2011 when these officers were dispatched to a Lincoln Ave apartment to investigate a concerned citizen’s report of possible narcotics activity. Through the use of observation, interview and investigative techniques these officers arrested two Glen Rock men and recovered over 50 grams of marijuana, Oxycotin, Oxycodone and Xanax pills, drug packaging materials, a scale and various paraphernalia along with over $800 in cash.

Honorable mention is also made of D/Sgt. Reamy, P.O. Mattina and BCPD P.O. Rivera and K-9 Quino

P.O. MC GILL

In recognition of his outstanding performance on July 27, 2011, having received a report of a subject fleeing the scene of a witnessed criminal mischief incident he promptly located the suspect, a highly intoxicated 22-year-old Glen Rock man, passed out on a street corner. Through investigation he was able to determine that the man had smashed several vehicles with a broomstick causing approximately $5,000 worth of damage.

SGT. MC INERNEY, P.O. TROVER & P.O. MC GILL

In recognition of their outstanding performance on August 11, 2011 during which time the officers were engaged in increased patrols of Lincoln Avenue due to a commercial burglary pattern being investigated in conjunction with Hawthorne Police. P.O. Trover along with a Hawthorne officer interrupted a burglary in progress at a gas station in Hawthorne near the Glen Rock border. When confronted the actor fled into Paterson where Sgt. Mc Inereny chased him on foot into a school yard where the actor resisted arrest and was subsequently taken into custody by Glen Rock and Hawthorne Officers.

Honorable mention is also made of Hawthorne Police Sgt. Peter Terrizzi, P.O. Ben Veenema P.O. Matthew Nedswick and P.O. Michael Phillips

COMMENDATION CERTIFICATES

P.O. MICHAEL TROVER

In recognition of excellence in Narcotics and DWI enforcement through the greatest number of arrests resulting from motor vehicle stops during the period of November, 2010 through October, 2011. A total of 63 Narcotics arrests and 17 DWI arrests were brought about through P.O. Trover’s excellent observations, interview and investigative techniques.

Honorable mention is also made of Supervisors and Patrol Officers who assisted with these arrests.

P.O. GREG CARTER

In recognition of excellence in Narcotics and DWI enforcement through the greatest number of arrests resulting from motor vehicle stops during the period of November, 2010 through October, 2011. A total of 37 Narcotics arrests and 13 DWI arrests were brought about through P.O. Carter’s excellent observations, interview and investigative techniques.

Honorable mention is also made of Supervisors and Patrol Officers who assisted with these arrests.

DEFIB SAVE PINS

SGT. RIGGIO, P.O. SCOTT, P.O. TROVER & P.O. CARTER

On April 25, 2011 these officers responded to a Glen Rock residence to investigate a 9-1-1 report of a female not breathing. Upon arrival officers found a 66-year-old Glen Rock woman in a lifeless state on the floor. The officers immediately began CPR and implemented use of a “DEFIBRILLATOR” unit.

Through the use of their training and equipment, the victim’s heart started beating properly; she was stabilized Paramedics and Glen Rock Ambulance Corps EMT’S then transported her to the Valley Hospital ER for emergency treatment. The victim has since made a full recovery.

November 9, 2011 these officers responded to a Glen Rock Residence to investigate a 9-1-1 report of an 11-year-old girl with difficulty breathing. Upon arrival officers found the child in a lifeless state on the floor and immediately began CPR.

Through the use of their training and equipment, the child’s heart started beating properly; she was stabilized Paramedics and Glen Rock Ambulance Corps EMT’S then transported her to the Valley Hospital ER for emergency treatment. Unfortunately due to complications from numerous pre-existing medical conditions the child passed away four days later.
