Glen Rock police blotter, 8/10

From  July 31 to Aug. 6, Glen Rock police officers handled 270 calls for service. Highlights include:

Aug. 1

• The manager of Bottle King on Prospect Street contacted Det. Michael Trover at around 11 a.m. and advised him of camera footage that was discovered showing a shoplifting that occurred on 7/24/2017. The manager reported that an older male had entered that store and concealed four wedges of cheese in his jacket.  The party then left the store without paying.  Det. Trover conducted a follow up and subsequently arrested a 66-year-old Fair Lawn man for shoplifting.  The actor was processed at Police HQ and released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in the Glen Rock Municipal Court on August 15th.
• The Passaic County Sheriff’s Department detained a 62-year-old Paterson man who was wanted by the Glen Rock Municipal Court on an active criminal warrant.  The man was subsequently taken into custody by Det. Michael Trover and Det. James Calaski who transported him to the Bergen County Jail.  

Aug. 2

• The owner of Maple Rock Exxon on Maple Ave reported a suspicious vehicle and occupant in his parking lot at 8:16 a.m.  The vehicle had fresh damage including a shredded tire and broken out rear window and he felt the driver was acting suspicious.  Upon further investigation, Sgt. Frank Riggio arrested the 36-year-old Stockholm, NJ, man and charged him with shoplifting alcohol from Kilroy’s Wonder Market. He was also charged with possession of unlawful weapons in his vehicle after patrol located a 10” fixed blade dagger style knife and a 12” hatchet / hammer.  The actor was processed at Police HQ and was released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.  Assisting with the investigation were P.O. Sarah Orsita, P.O. James McGill, and Det. Michael Trover.
• While on patrol at 2:38 p.m., P.O. James McGill came across a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries on Harristown Road by the on ramp to Route 208 north.  Glen Rock EMS responded to the scene to treat the three injured occupants.  The Glen Rock and Hawthorne Fire Departments also responded to assist with the extrication of one of the injured parties out of the car.  The injured were transported to St. Joe’s Hospital in Paterson and to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.  The one driver was issued two motor vehicle summonses by P.O. McGill, who was the investigating officer.  Assisting with the investigation were Sgt. Frank Riggio, Sgt. Christopher McInereny, and P.O. Sarah Orsita.

Aug. 3

• A Rodney Street resident reported that as he walked outside of his residence at 5:12 a.m., he observed a male wearing long pants and a long sleeve shirt rummaging through the inside of his vehicle.  When he approached the male, the suspect fled on foot through several yards on Rodney Street toward Glen Avenue.   The vehicle was unlocked at the time.  There did not appear to be anything missing from the vehicle.   P.O. Robert Surdyka, P.O. T.J. Graziani, and P.O. James Donnelly checked the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.
• A Glen Rock resident reported that his bicycle, valued at $150, was stolen from the bicycle rack at the Main Line Train Station.  He had secured the bicycle before taking the train to work.  When he arrived back at the station, his bicycle along with its lock were missing.  The Detective Bureau is investigating.
• A Glen Rock resident reported that his bicycle, valued at $550, was stolen from the bicycle rack near 244 Rock Road.  He left the bicycle in the rack at approximately 6:30 PM.   When he returned to the rack, the bicycle was missing.   The Detective Bureau is investigating.

Aug. 4
A Glen Rock resident reported that her bicycle had been stolen the day before from the Boro Hall Train Station.  She stated that she parked her bicycle at approximately 07:00 a.m.  When she returned later in the day, she found her lock had been cut and the bicycle missing.  The Detective Bureau is investigating.

Aug. 5
A resident of Boulevard reported a theft of her leaf blower.  The resident stated that between 08-02-2017 and 08-04-2017, an unknown party entered her unlocked garage and removed a leaf blower valued at $299.  The Detective Bureau is investigating.
