"Today, while at Arlington Cemetery during the Remembrance Day weekend, I was given the opportunity to wear a yellow ribbon in memory of a soldier (chosen at random).I have since taken the time to research the history of the soldier whose memory I pledged to honour. I am truly impacted by his unselfish act of bravery while trying to save a young Iraqi child. I feel very proud to have beem given this opportunity today."

"Richard, I think of you often. I no longer mourn your loss, I just thank God that a man like you existed. Thanks for all you did for me and the mighty 571st. I am less than one month from retiring and I am honored to have served along the side of a man like you. I'll hold you in my thoughts forever."
CPT Ted H. Snyder of Colorado Springs, Colorado

"Hey Richard. The last time I saw you, you were on leave, I don't remember the date exactly. I remember we were driving back from King Hill and you were driving too fast and I was yelling at you and you and Audrey were laughing and I think you might have even sped up just to give me grief! I remember that most about you, that you were always laughing. I remember thinking how lucky you and Audrey were to have found each other. The two of you always made me think of fairy tale love, how close you were! I remember Audrey's 18(I think?) birthday and you jumped out of those barrels when she thought you were still in Iraq! The two of you were so sweet and there we all were for her party and all she had eyes for was you! I know she misses you still. I don't think she will ever stop.

Thank you for your sacrifice. The world lost a good man the day you passed. I will always remember you!"
Miranda O. of New Plymouth, ID

"Hey Carl, I miss the days prior to leaving for Iraq. I miss the the persistence in you concerning the need for new brakes on your helicopter, and the ability to put up with me when I half-assed listened. You always rolled with the punches and I miss that. Thanks for tolerating me and I hope youre in a better place wherever that may be."
Joe Peca of Philadelphia, PA

"Although I knew him for three years I knew I was his little baby. Im his little Ealyann. Every time my mom cries because she always sees my dad inside Dominick. The only thing that she has left of him is me and my brother. I feel like my dad is holding me. Im 10 years old and in 4th grade now. I bet my dad will be proud of me. Every time I visited his grave I feel like he is alive. My mom says he is funny. I wish I knew him.

"Me and "Combat" Carl were in line to use the phones in Kuwait and we shared a conversation that stays with me to this day. It went into details that were personal to me and him both. The point of that small conversation was that no matter what happened we both missed and loved our wifes unconditionally. Later on through out those months I would see "Combat" Carl in the FOBS while I would perform inspections and we would shoot a few words to one another. The last time I saw him was the day before. We left smiles on each others faces that day, although I cant remember what we spoke about exactly. But I do to this day remember the conversations we had about our love for our wifes."

"To the family and friends of Richard Carl: I went to AIT with Richard in 1996 and grew to know him as one of the hardest working and most genuine people that I know. I am a pilot from Ft Carson, who was serving in Iraq with Richard, and was able to attend his memorial in Iraq.I know that he was extremely proud to have served as a medivac crewchief. It gave me comfort to know that he gave his life while trying to rescue that of a young Iraqi girl, and that is the ultimate gift. I will ALWAYS remember him for the brave soldier that he always will be."

"To the Wife, Children, and family of SGT Richard Carl. I was Richard's platoon sergeant while we were stationed in Korea. Richard was always my go to guy to get any mission accomplished and in his usual fashion of 100 mph. SGT Carl, then PVT Carl always spoke highly of his family, and his work values showed the fine upbringing this young man had. Richard e-mailed me from Korea, and wanted my help to get him into the 571st Med, to which I made some phone calls, and was able to get Richard to the unit he wanted. As a Dustoff soldier myself, I know the reason Richard wanted to be in a Medevac Unit. He wanted to help people. As a retired US Army First Sergeant, I will remember SGT Richard Carl as one of the best soldiers that I have ever had the pleasure to serve with, and I know without a doubt, he is up in heaven doing what god asks at his usual 100 mph speed. My prayers are with his wife, two children, mother and father and the rest of his family and friends. I know that the Army has lost a truly remarkable soldier, and heaven has gained a true Guardian Angel."
First Sergeant (Retired) George Litteral of Wilsey, KS
