I try to come here every time I am in town. The entire family loves this place. Great employees, location, doughnuts and drinks. The doughnuts are huge!
I love the bar that you can sit at, when it is not full to compacity. This is the best and only doughnuts shop to come to!Helpful 24Thanks 0Love this 20Oh no 0 - Genevieve F.Raceland, LA284125078613Jan 29, 2023
Oh my the King Cake doughnut was sublime. I ate every bite. They use their King Cake batter and literally just make a doughnut out of them.
The wedding cake doughnut was suggested to me but I'm not a fan. It does have almond flavor which I love but there's that greasy taste left in my mouth that some doughnut places have.
Lovely people.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Feb 22, 2021
King Cake Review!!! Now that I have your attention, dear reader...
It was a nice sunny day in beautiful Houma and Mardi Gras season was full in effect. Yep, it's different in the year of pandemics, election craziness and Latoya the Destroya, but my sister and I had a craving for some good king cake cake. We stopped into Mr. Ronnie's-famous for donuts and their twenty four hour drive thru because when only a donut will do at 2am they got you.
After a little debating we agreed on a filled one and chose half apple, half pecan praline. These flavors went so well together I'm thinking of making it my regular filled order. These aren't your traditional king cakes, obviously but it hit the spot nonetheless. They "fill" it when you're there to pick it up by slicing the cake in half and slathering on the filling of your choice. They are super generous with the fillings and that thing weighed at least five pounds when it was done.
So how'd it taste? Pretty darn good considering it's a donut king cake and the dough wasn't swirling with cinnamon (my weakness). It was a hit with everyone and I'd definitely get another next season.Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0 - Biggy E.Abbeville, LA18124283Jun 18, 2022
Someone recommended this place, said it was great. Spent 22 bucks and ended up throwing almost all away. Was disgusting, dough is so chewy and heavy. The fillings are of glue consistency and the glaze is almost solid sugar. You can tell when the chocolate coating of the eclair is cracked meaning it's been sitting there for a week.. One word to describe these failures is STALE. These donuts are freegging effing STALE!

What a delightful find in Houma !?! I was just passing through and saw the sign for Mr. Ronnie's and figured I'd try a doughnut or two and be on my way. To my surprise it also served burger sliders and fountain sodas along with fresh hot doughnuts. The sliders were good although I should have asked to have them double stacked. I originally came in to try their plain glazed and their blueberry doughnuts which were just how I liked them. I was rather impressed with the blueberry and would definitely put it in my top five. The ladies working there were all so nice and they gave me a fresh hot glazed which melted in my mouth. All in all I would definitely stop in again.

Hot, fresh, and expertly served. Lots of folks sitting when I walked in, but I was attended to quickly. I will be back!

This is a tricky review to write.
If you're from Houma, you likely know and love Mr. Ronnie's Famous Hot Donuts, and I can't tell you anything about the place that you don't already know.
On the other hand, most of my Yelp friends will eventually visit New Orleans, but Houma, Louisiana is an hour-and-a-bit (and a world away) from there, and they may never find it. That's a shame, because Mr. Ronnie's has mastered the twin arts of donut-making and quirky, charming friendliness.
Depending on the time of day that you stop in, you may run into hunters and fishermen heading out for a day's adventure; moms stopping in with their kids to buy them (and themselves) a treat; or high-schoolers, enjoying some sugar and a chat before heading home to text each other.
As Houma grows more corporate and less personal, Mr. Ronnie's proves increasingly useful to the community. Owned by Ronnie Picou and his family for over twenty-five years, Mr. Ronnie's has always supported local schools, charitable efforts, the New Orleans Saints, and of course, the LSU Tigers, and the family's willingness to provide a place for social engagement - to strengthen the ties that bind - is as important as anything that the company sells.

So, what's good?
Mr. Ronnie's menu includes more than fifty types of donut, plus puff pastry, rolls and buns and muffins and fritters, even kolaches and king cakes and burgers, but in my opinion, the place sells one perfect thing: the Maple Bacon Eclair.
For years, donut aficionados from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine have raved about this or that maple bacon donut, long john or bar, and I'm sure those things are fine, but Mr. Ronnie's injects each such bar with sweet, smooth custard, an essential component that's omitted elsewhere in an oversight that beggars belief.
Wait, what? They fill a maple bacon bar with custard? Don't they know about calories, and diabetes and morbid obesity?
Of course they do, but so what? Mr. Ronnie's Maple Bacon Eclair is a rapturous delight, and the clock is ticking. YOLO, y'all.
Remember, our Cajun brethren invented the Turducken, because why eat a turkey when you can eat a turkey stuffed with a duck that's stuffed with a chicken, and some stuffing? And then there's the drive-thru daquiri stand, which, when you think about it, is a model of efficiency. For that matter, these are folks who enjoy the occasional Fin & Feather tournament, because why just go fishing, when you can hunt ducks at the same time?
The food, music and other entertainments of Les Louisianais are born of a cultural, even genetic, genius for innovation in the service of self-gratification. I'm not Cajun, but these are my people.

Anyway, no one sane drives from New Orleans to Houma for donuts, so if I've been convincing about the eclairs, you'll want a way to rationalize the trip.
How about this?
If you're visiting NOLA and you have a day to kill, spend it fishing out of Jug's Landing in Theriot. The boat ramp is thirty minutes down Bayou Dularge from Mr. Ronnie's, itself a convenient place from which to start (and end) your day.
The drive is easy. The fishing is great. The donuts, as I say, are perfection.

A sad note: Ronnie Picou passed away in February 2019 at the age of 79. He is missed by his family, friends and neighbors, and by the larger community that he served. Sometimes, a donut is more than just a donut. RIP Mr. RonnieHelpful 135Thanks 0Love this 132Oh no 0 - Marlon D.LA, LA02457Dec 1, 2022
Lots of warm doughnuts to choose from. The eclair is amazing. Good coffee and fairly price. My go to when I'm in the mood for a sugar rush.

I could not get enough of these cake doughnuts. These did not disappoint and they're not your dry ass plain kind. But rich, buttery, literally cake. Their best seller is the wedding cake and I don't even like almond but I loved that doughnut. I still think about these doughnuts even a year later. They also have a drive through which was super convenient. And they also have burgers. Super affordable and great service.

Stopped by on a Sunday morning and got a dozen hot donuts and a blueberry cake donut. Also tried to order some kolaches but they were out. Even though they were out of kolaches, donuts were very good so will go back when in town.
