Wow, big surprise there are an overwhelming torrent of 1 star reviews that some declare should be zero !!!
As with others have said: RUDE CUSTOMER SUPPORT, YOU MUST FAX !!! (who used FAX anymore), totally frustrating to the point of raising your blood pressure to dangerous levels.
They required me to submit endless forms via FAX that they said, with my own proof of sending, they didn't receive. This ridiculously incompetent financial company took out tax money from my 22 year old Roth IRA, WHICH IS TAX FREE !!
OMG suffice it to say - STAY AWAY from these scammer fools. Heading to the BBB next - totally frustrating.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kristi M.Roswell, GA01Jan 10, 2024
Terrible customer service and the most difficult to deal with.
They don't email; everything has to be faxed or mailed.
I have faxed a w9 5xs trying to finish up my mother's claim and they keep coming up with an excuse or saying I've missed some form but even though a rep helped me fill everything out over the phone back in November 2023. It is now Jan 2024 and still dealing with this.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katherine A.North Chesterfield, North Chesterfield, VA01Dec 19, 2023

This company is beyond AWFUL to deal with. Everytime you call you have to navigate thru multiple layers of a phone tree & answer a lot of questions before you get a representative (and of course have to repeat everything you just entered). My parents paid on a long-term care policy for over 30 yrs. & when my dad needed benefits for Assisted Living, it took 3 mos. to be approved. His initial Zoom assessment meeting with a 3rd party nurse took 3 hours! They initially denied the claim (of course, because that's what insurance companies do, STALL) & we had to keep submitting more & more paperwork to finally be approved. My dad had a diagnosis of advanced vascular dementia from a Neurologist so he was NOT going to improve. Regardless of this diagnosis, they still made him go thru a "re-approval process" via Zoom every 3 months! When he had to be moved to nursing care, we were able to get his "full" benefit which was only around $250/day. Nursing care cost $400/day so obviously this policy did not keep up with inflation. This is another reason not to waste your money on a long-term care policy with this company.

This company is 100% a scam. Their forms are fake and nothing gets done, they send you in circles, transferring you to someone else who tells you conflicting information. Horrible. My father passed and this company has made the process ten times worse.

Do not do business with this company. I have tried to work with this company to recover my father's claim and they are the rudest representatives. While I was trying to express my frustrations a rep. Actually said, "can I talk now.". They refuse to accept responsibility for their lack of empathy in people's time of need.

They are not BBB accredited. They keep sending mail to my deceased Mother's home.

There is absolutely no transparency In how my payments are invested to grow. If I wanted to cash out at some point it's value is the same despite having paid in for 14 1/2 years at $1167 per month= over $14, 000 per year leaves a "cash value" if I wanted to stop paying into it just $6000 total! They admit taking out their $117 per month, leaving $1050.20 going into the obscure clouds. They've made my husband's small Roth IRA disappear by increments to nothing in 14 years. Would I recommend this company?? No way! Not in a million years!

Never ever ever purchase a long term care policy from River Source. They have a history and pattern of not approving claims so that they don't have to pay out on the policy. we are having to hire an attorney to force them to do what they are legally obligated to do.
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 14, 2021Previous reviewMy mother in law, Barbara Lawler, purchased a long term care policy in 1991. She recently became very ill and moved into a licensed assisted living facility in Texas. River Source approved that she qualified under the terms of the policy. However, they denied her claim because the facility in which she lives is not technically called a "nursing home" as described in the policy. This is because assisted living facilities did not exist in 1991 and the nursing homes of 1991 are now called assisted living facilities. River Source is violating its duty of good faith and fair dealings by not paying the claim. My mother in law faithfully paid her premiums for 30 years and River Source is now refusing to help her. If we force her to move simply to jump through unnecessary hoops this may kill her. We are currently hiring an attorney to fight this. River Source fraudulently took her money for 30 years and then refuses to keep their part of the contract.

IF I could give a lower than 1 star I would. Their Long Term Care policy doesnt even deserve ANY stars. They are slow at reviewing cases and then denie claims stating that 2 of the 5 ADL's have not been met ( or met to the degree that they feel would require them to begin payments) My mother had been paying into this policy for 30 years and now that she is in assisted living and time to receive benefits she is continually declined benefits. The benefit is supposed to be $60 a day for the Assisted living portion and $100 for the Nursing home portion of the policy. She can not walk to the dining room to get her food any more. Has incontinence and requires help toileting, has dementia and unable to handle making decisions, unable to dress her self or do her own laundry with out assistance, unable to, or allowed to, cook or clean. All this has been verified by her Dr's, care takers and nursing staff. However Riversource "claims the above items do not "in their discretion" meet 2 of the 5 required ADL's which would require them to pay benefits of $60 a day.
If you are considering Riversource for long term care insurance save your money. They will denie your claim.Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0
