I have enjoyed going to Real Seafood Company for well over a decade. Consistently yummy seafood. It might not be the best value (pretty expensive and portions aren't necessarily large), but we like the food, the ambiance, the service. It's an approachably nice place to get a good meal.
I also like that you can kind of create different experiences for yourselves. Feeling more casual? A steamed mussels bucket with a side of fries is a great meal for $18. Or the seafood alfredo is good bang for your buck too. Feeling a little more upscale? Their twin lobster tails are consistent and decently sized. Lots of fresh and specialty fish options. Delicious bread and butter to start (that's really unique!). Large wine list!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1062300Feb 10, 2024
Had a fantastic date night here. To start I had the Detroit Sour which was delicious! Similar to a whiskey sour, it was sweet but tart. We got the fried calamari as an appetizer, which came with a delicious saffron aioli. But my fav part of the meal was the Miso glazed Chilean Sea Bass. It was fresh, light, and buttery! It just melted in my mouth, I was in heaven. My husband had the Tuna Shanghai, which he loved. I tried a bite and it was soo good. Perfectly cooked and tender in the middle, it tasted like a light steak! Yum! We were too full for dessert but we will be back

Great event! Only note would be that the all you can eat oysters is misleading. It was not. It was all you can be SERVED and eat within 30 mins. The time limit was not well communicated. (if at all)
The rest of the menu was crap. We were there for the oysters anyway. Service for this event was excellent. The Beer rep was fun and engaging. The other diners were fine but some annoying. I was grateful we didn't have to sit together or head up to a buffet-style.
If this will be the same set up again, we won't attend, but if it truly is unlimited "all-you-can-eat" as advertised, then it would be worth it.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0May 19, 2018Previous reviewVisited on a Friday night at 8pm, during A2's annual Ladies' night. Real Seafood was our last stop and choice to get a bite. The patio is open to the outside and still in the building. The sidewalk tables are plentiful, with colorful umbrellas to shield the sun or in our case, drizzle of rain now and then. Zach was our server and did a great job attending to four women on a wine and shopping spree, hopping tables to avoid the rain. Nothing phased him; he was an excellent server. We enjoyed the special ladies night pomegranate margaritas and glasses of wine. My sister really got into the oysters and discussion with Zach about the different types. I enjoyed dynamite shrimp. Menu says it comes with asparagus, and that asparagus was breaded and fried with the shrimp. Yumm! Only hiccup was the brussell sprouts ordered didn't come to our table. The manager, Vinnie, heard and was right there and on it. He offered a dessert as an apology. We didn't ask for a manager but I think he was paying attention to what was going on in his dining room and quickly addressed the issue with Zach at our table. Now that's customer service and attention to detail. Very well done. Our indecisive group couldn't decide between the key lime pie or the mousse, so he brought both!
DO NOT skip dessert at Real Seafood. They were both amazing. Key lime was dense, creamy and tart but not bitter. The mousse was heaven in a glass. Almost as good as the Produce Station's chocolate walnut brownie mousse. Vinnie said he brought both in celebration of Ladies Night, thank you for the visit and sorry for the sprouts. We were very impressed. We will definitely visit again soon.May 3, 2012Previous reviewYES!
Wednesday evening dinner on the first good weather in downtown Ann Arbor in a month. Sat outside and received excellent service. Not always the case in restaurants with outdoor seating. I had a nice glass of Sauv Blanc and we shared the Crab & Artichoke dip. Beautifully stuff with crab meat, nice and hot, with a perfect crumb crust topping. Delicious.
Dinner - I tried the Bleu Cheese Scallops after the waiter explained that the cheese wasn't too overpowering and the dish blended well, if you like Bleu cheese. I gave it a shot. So glad I did. He was right. Not too much, scallops were cooked perfectly and the flavor was interesting and fun. Even the veg selection was done well. Crisp, yet cooked and still hot. Hard to do with green beans.
My husband has the filet, butterflied, medium well. Perfectly cooked, which was not expected from a seafood place.
We shared the coconut cream pie for dessert. We were a little put off by the first bite until we realized it was the texture of real ingredients that we were tasting and not a store-bought, pudding filled pie in a ready-made crust. Oh this was the real deal. Perfect end to a perfect meal.
Couldn't have asked for better.Mar 13, 2012Previous reviewI hate to give Real Seafood a bad review because I LOVE the Mainstreet Ventures restaurants SO MUCH, but I have to review based on my last visit.
We had reservations and were seated at 8pm. Good thing too because the place was packed! It was much louder than I remember in the past.
The service was entertaining, I just wish he would have remembered refills and requests a little more.
The main reason for the 2 stars was the quality of the food. I expected better. I've had better seafood at Big Boy. Not exaggerating. I ordered the Blue Plate Special. I posted a picture. It was just not worth $30 for a handful of french fries, overcooked shrimp, undercooked scallops, two oysters, the stuff flounder was good, and the crab cake had way too much filler for it to be from a REAL SEAFOOD restaurant. I would have expected to get this plate from a place like Bob Evans.
Too loud, bad quality, overpriced for the quality, and spotty service. bummer.
The $5 cup of clam chowder was tasty though. - Aug 13, 2023
We visited the Ann Arbor location on our way to an event...
This place (and EVERY Real Seafood Co) is simply awesome. The Service, the friendliness of the Staff, and of course, THE FOOD!!!!
We tried to eat the entire menu but fell woefully short. We started with Broiled Oysters, a Clam & Mussels Steam Pot, She-crab soup and the complimentary soft, warm bread. All of these things were fantastic.
Our main entrees were Paella Valenciana (must) and the Lake Erie Perch Meunière with a Crab Leg accompaniment - stupid good my friends...
Our drinks were also well done - the Blood Orange Mule, the Peach Mojito and the Pineapple Ginger Daquiri. My wife loved the Daquiri the most, but all were great.
If you haven't been to any of their locations in Michigan - it's worth the drive.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3541941040Dec 6, 2023Updated review
I have to say Real Seafood is consistent. I feel like I know the food will be fresh and tasty. The service was good and the ambience is cozy. We went with the beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus, crab cakes with veggie medley (roasted butternut squash and carrots with a maple glaze), and mashed potatoes. I'm sad they got rid of the blue plate special. I thought that was a good way to try a variety of seafood dishes at once. There are other options to choose from though so that won't keep me from visiting again and working my way down the menu. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend trying it out.

Since it was a Tuesday evening, we didn't make a reservation and we didn't need one as we were seated right away. The decor stuck me as family-friendly and the aroma entering the restaurant indicated it was definitely a seafood establishment.
The menus were all on iPads. As I had already studied the menu before my visit, it didn't take me long to know exactly what I was going to order. I only waited to hear the special of the day to see if I could be persuaded to change my mind. After hearing the special of the day, I decided to stick with my original option...the Blue Plate Special. I chose it for my visit because I thought it was a good introduction to a variety of dishes. It came with a crab cake, stuffed flounder, and a skewer of grilled shrimp and scallops. For my side dish, I chose the seasonal vegetable, which was a medley. And I substituted coleslaw for french fries. I'm not a fan of coleslaw. It's a filler food to me. But I can always do fries. Life is just better with fries. Everything I had was really good including the fresh bread and butter. My eating companions got the Spanish paella, which was also very good and the crab cakes and clam chowder.
The service was good but not great. It seemed like our waiter was overwhelmed managing all his tables and forgot a few things we asked him for. All in all, it was a good experience.
The stand out of the night for me was the birthday dessert. We chose the pumpkin cheesecake. I'm not sure if it's because it was in season but it was so fresh, airy, and rich! It was delish!
I can now say I've been to Real Seafood Co. and it was a solid experience. - Jun 1, 2023
First time here. On our way back home from Marshall, we decided to stop in Ann Arbor for lunch. I had the fish tacos that were pretty tasty. My wife had the seafood risotto that she enjoyed as well. It was great because there were hardly anyone else in the place. Bonus.
It is a pain right now getting around Ann Arbor will all the road construction and Main Street being completely closed. However, this place made it worth the effort getting there.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Jeff S.Farmington, NM03020Feb 21, 2024
Saturday night at what I expected to be a nice enough restaurant, but felt more like a day care given all the screaming children running around. Also I didn't see hotdogs on the menu, or know where the bleacher seats are kept, but I sure did see a lot of grown men wearing baseball hats inside. Maybe that's just "Pure Michigan?"

I visited Real Seafood to try the oysters. I loved how they offered a variety of different choices. I ordered a total of eight; all tasted very fresh and were chilled to perfection. Not to mention, the service was pleasant and the ambiance was truly nice. I recommend coming here for oysters!
