A hiker died Saturday after having trouble breathing near the end of a trail in the Superstition Mountains.

A 69-year-old man died Saturday during a hike in the Superstition Mountains, according to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.

The unidentified Gilbert resident was traveling with a group of Boy Scouts, said Navideh Forghani, a PCSO spokeswoman. She said the man was nearing the end of the trail when he began having trouble breathing.

Fire crews responded and began performing CPR, Forghani said, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
