The Peabody Memphis boasts a blend of historical allure and whimsy, epitomized by its famed duck parade, but opinions diverge on its value and upkeep. While the hotel's cleanliness typically impresses guests, and its location earns praise for convenience, some travelers bemoan outdated rooms and loud street sounds disrupting their sleep. Services receive a mixed reception, ranging from commendable to lackluster. The hotel's atmosphere and unique amenities captivate many, yet others feel it falls short in providing modern comforts and justifying its costs.

Our visit to the Peabody in Memphis was awesome. We decided we would treat ourselves after a LONG, hard trip to deliver a motor to rural Pennsylvania-especially when we were given the room rate! VERY reasonable. We had driven 13 hours, and called ahead to ensure we could actually get to the property, due to the protests. We were assured there would be no problem, and told there would be dinner available upon our arrival, either in-house, or very nearby. The downtown area was extremely secure, our check in, with the very special LeeLoo, was flawless, and our car was placed where we would have immediate access. The bellman even inquired as to whether we might need a bowl for the cute puppy! We actually got to relax in the lobby with beer, sleep in an amazing room, and rest before attending the funeral service for David Leonard's precious aunt. I know this is a LONG post, AND if you have the opportunity, stay at the Peabody to reward them for their excellence, even during a pandemic, and unrest-WE plan to!

Our first time to Memphis and we choose the Peabody for our stay. Beautiful old world hotel. Very inviting and charming. Was pleasantly surprised by the local residents living on the 13th floor and bathing in lobby fountain. They are very lucky duckies! Our room was on the 12th floor which offed a complimentary lounge offering breakfast and from 5-7 pm full bar and heavy appetizers all included in nightly rate. Our room was nicely appointed with comfortable robes, bath products and endless bottled water. Enjoyed our stay at the Peabody. However valet customers beware! We had a brand new rental car 800 miles on the odometer and it was damaged while in the valet staffs care.

The Peabody is doing everything it can to make guests feel safe during the pandemic. Everything was thoroughly cleaned in my room, extra toiletries and supplies were provided ahead of time, and the staff wore masks at all times. Unfortunately, there were still some psychopath guests walking around without masks, but the staff of this wonderful hotel is doing the best it can in very trying times.

I've come to feel that historic hotels have a downside. They are often priced at a premium because of their history, but then retrofitted to manage their popularity and the demands of today. The downstairs of the Peabody fits this description, at least to me. The Metropole in Hanoi had the same issues with too many people in a space that wasn't designed for that. The Peabody lobby is gorgeous but feels a bit overrun much of the time. It's very public and doesn't feel like a place where actual guests in the hotel congregate. This isn't just because of the ducks, but even at other times it doesn't feel elegant, it feels like a tourist trap. The rooms though, are very nice. Our room (952) was really roomy, with serene grey and white tones. It was sophisticated, but felt old fashioned in a nice way.
The bathroom also had old fashioned touches in the sink style and marble, but still felt recently renovated and modern. They also have a nice touch that I haven't seen else where which is a light at foot level that illuminated the floor when you get out of bed at night. It's quite nice. Their fitness center was very good with plenty of elipticals, bikes, treadmills, a weight room and a pool.
We also happened to be in the lobby during the duck march, which has a lot of history behind it. But they do make quite a lot of it when perhaps a shorter introduction would work just as well. The Duck Master did a great job -- he is clear, tells a good story, and keeps the crowd attentive. When the ducks finally arrive they are pretty quickly in the fountain. But they stay there all day swimming around, so even if you choose not to hear the big presentation, you can still see the ducks any time between 11-5. I also liked Ladsky's Men's Store in the lobby. Lot's of great Memphis style shirts, even though we didn't indulge. Overall the Peabody is still probably the place to stay in Memphis. But a smaller boutique hotel could give them competition.

Was looking for a hotel
For a staycation. The Peabody has many good reviews so I booked it for the duck march. The location is prime and the lobby is stunning. Check in was easy but the front desk lady was so dry (Maddie). It was just let me get your credit card and here’s your room key. The duck master, I believer his name was Walker, ( pretty dapper looking African American guy) was excellent with his presentation. I was on the 11th floor, no decent view. The rooms were old, lol I know the hotel is old, but the walls looked like too many layers of paint. The bathroom is super small( looked the same size as the coat closet) and if you’re a heavier person, it would be totally uncomfortable to use. I ordered room service for my children , they said they chicken strips were too chewy. They were hard when I tried them. I only ordered a milkshake for myself and when the staff delivered I immediately asked for a straw and she said they didn’t have any....really.... I should’ve been told that when I ordered. The pool was very small for a hotel that size and hot tub seemed to only fit 2 people comfortably. Well, for the room rates, I expected much more. I would not stay again.

The Hotel and the amenities were very nice. The decor, the restaurants, the watching of the ducks, the live piano playing all very nice and met our expectations. However the disappointment in the room service was not anticipated. Called to have towels, water and waste cans emptied in the morning and upon returning in the evening housekeeping had not provided the services. Called that evening again and within minutes we received towels and water however had to ask again to empty the waste baskets. We came with the expectations for the price paid for quality services of housekeeping would automatically be provided but is not the case. After two days of seeing food trays outside of the rooms from previous guests, I called guest services to inform them that they needed to pick have someone come pick up the food trays outside the rooms on that floor. Hotel is beautiful, staff is nice and friendly, and the ducks are fun to watch, the restaurants are very nice, the live piano music was entertaining. My advice is stay elsewhere and save your money and just visit the Peabody as it is open to the public for everyone to share and you would not have to pay the quality prices with substandard services.

Great history, atmosphere, food, and of course the ducks. This particular stay is our 4th time staying at this hotel and our main issue this time around is the cleanliness. Upon arrival to the room, there was fecal stains in the toilet sheets and wet urine under the seat. I cleaned it up myself easily which leads me to believe the housekeeper didn’t try at all or the bathroom was used after the cleaning.

The little in-room amenities also are going away. No duck-shaped soap, no rubber ducky, and no nicely wrapped toilet paper. Those details actually mattered on why we kept coming back.

Ordered room service for dinner and found it odd that there was no kids menu for room service, you can order dog food and cat food, but no kid friendly meal. I guess the 1/2 pound burger will have to do for a 4 year old.

I usually book through Priceline for the rate and even received a coupon on my previous stay for I think 10 or 15% off the BAR rate if you book directly from their website. Problem is, the BAR rate for the date I stayed was $290 and Priceline was $135 for the same room. It’s a no brainer to book with Priceline, with no rewards program, there is no incentive to book directly. With Priceline’s commission, the hotel gets even less than $135, yet they won’t let me book $135 directly, very weird.

With all these negative remarks, there are still a lot of positives, every staff member we interacted with was great, ducks were amazing, food delicious, and beds/pillows were some of the best I’ve slept on (and I’m a diamond member at a major hotel chain so I’ve had my fair share of hotel beds).

We spent 3 nights at the The Peabody hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Memphis who enjoys live music and the blues. It is conveniently located to Beale Street with many eating options and entertainment options within easy walking distance. I would recommend the inclusive deal that gives you a full breakfast each morning and also covers self-parking. You may get your breakfast delivered to your room each day or dine downstairs. It is a beautiful and well taken care of hotel worth every cent of the stay!!!

We took a romantic Valentine's weekend to Memphis. Our stay at the Peabody was very nice. It is quite expensive, but there were many nice touches that made it feel elegant, like an abundance of nice toiletries, bath robe, bottled waters. The hotel is perfectly maintained and gorgeous. Of course, the ducks were featured heavily in everything! They were so cute and such a fun tradition! My only very slight disappointment was that the staff seemed very rushed. This led to less than ideal attentiveness for the amount of money spent to stay at the hotel. Especially at the deli and the bars. The lines were very long and the staff were quite frantic at times. I was also disappointed to discover that the baby grand piano was being operated by computer, not an actual musician. I would love to see the Peabody employ a pianist! Overall it was a fun treat, but it won't be one we can afford to do often!

We stayed here several years ago and had a fair experience. I thought then, "been there, done that. Can mark it off the list." I should have maintained that perspective.

My daughters and I met friends in January in the lobby to watch the ducks march from the fountain to the rooftop. I had forgotten how beautiful the lobby was and was completely charmed by it. When I was looking for a place to stay for our most recent trip, I noticed an exceptional room rate and decided to give it another try.

The pros: Lovely, historic hotel. The location is convenient to all things downtown. I believe the rooms have been recently updated as the decor was newer than it was during our last stay. The staff is very warm and welcoming. The a/c worked great. Lots of closet space. Decent storage in the bathroom despite its tiny size. Large rooms.

The cons: The location. Because it is downtown, traffic is very loud (especially on the weekend). Tiny bathrooms. No mini bar or mini fridge. No blanket or comforter on the bed-just a sheet and very thin duvet cover. The beds are squishy soft-would not be good for someone with back problems.

The staff we encountered could not have been nicer, but we had several disappointments. We grabbed croissants and coffee on our way out the door Saturday morning. The coffee was good, the croissants were stale. :( We declined maid service by phone on Saturday morning, and requested fresh towels. We came home late Saturday night to our dirty towels sitting in the entry still awaiting pick up. So, they got the message that we didn't want maid service but forgot the towels.

Our most notable problem was with the incredible noise that kept us awake for the better part of both nights. Revving engines and tire squeals lasted until close to 4:00am as cars raced down Union Ave. The noise was clearly audible despite our fifth floor room and using earplugs. We got almost no sleep at all and decided we would never stay downtown again, if possible. If you choose to stay downtown or at the Peabody, I would request a room on the highest floor on the opposite side of the hotel from Union Ave.

I am glad you enjoyed our staff, convenient location, and history, but am very sorry for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. I will be sure to pass along your review about the croissants and the towels to the appropriate departments so that these errors do not happen again. We hope you will come back to visit the ducks or have a drink in the lobby so we can make it up to you.

Once you find the parking lot entrance, about 100 feet beyond the valet exit, just pull into the driveway and drive to the valet stations. They will help you with your bags!
