My motorcycle got stolen.
I have video footage. I have an AirTag. I called yesterday at 12:09 sitting outside of a sketchy homeless camp near alameda in Oakland. Waiting for the cops to arrive. Called many times. Just put on hold. No one shows up. For hours. So I go to the Home Depot cause there is always an officer there. I talked with him and he explained that he was contracted to stay in that parking lot. Another man comes out saying his van got stolen and the cop completely leaves our conversation and gets in his car to find this van.
Sexist? Ageist? Probably both. I am in my 30s and a women.
And the person who came up to the officer I was talking to was a white man probably in his 50s.
I was then completely ignore and refused help. And my stolen property was much closer than his. And also I was first. And called hours before that.
I ALSO NEEDED A CALL TO ACTION.
1:37am this morning I have a voicemail saying the cops are at the scene. 13+ hours later. And I should come there if I can. I was asleep obviously. And not going to go to a homeless camp at 1:37 am thanks.
I go to the police station today and they say that they don't even have any info on my bike. No case-nothing.
Wtf is happening.
I understand that there is crime everywhere. But come on, I was ignored completely. Couldn't even get in contact with 911 or non emergency yesterday for multiple calls.
What if I was being murdered or something? Should I be on hold then?
Oakland is getting so bad. And the opd doesn't seem to care at all about the citizens on this city.
I was cut off multiple times trying to ask questions today at the station. I shouldn't have to go into the police station to have a case number. I called they asked for info, motorcycle info, VIN, what car I was waiting in. And I still didn't get response until 13 hrs later and still nothing was recorded In the system?
This is so wrong.
Oakland and ALL cities Need quick responding, friendly, and public serving police.
Not ....self serving, not available, inconsiderate, and incompetent police.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - May 26, 2023

It has been a while (over 7 years ago) since I stopped in at OPD. At that time, I was helping a friend fill out a report of fraud. The employees were okay, but the waiting in line was something else. It's almost similar to the lines at DMV.
This time around the line moved quicker. I had to talk to an officer on duty about a crime being committed on one of the streets in Oakland. It was one of those breaking into a vehicle and taking a back pack from the back seat. I took a few photos and showed them to the officer. He is aware of the crime, as several other people reported the crime involving the same vehicle - a black VW. I can only speculate that there is an ongoing investigation occurring. He thanked me for reporting it.
If you see this vehicle, do not approach and be safe out there.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Bay C.Berkeley, CA2596Sep 22, 2023
I witnessed an elderly dog being abused in downtown oakland and I called the phone number recommended by the oakland animal shelter, which is the nonemergency police. I was on hold for 15 minutes and no one came on the line. I called again and was on hold. Eventually I gave up.
this is not the first time this is happened. if you look at the Oakland animal shelter page, this is the number they encourage people to call, yet I can never get through. I wonder how many more people have called and just given up?
Very sad.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Will S.Oakland, CA02May 10, 2023
Astonishingly unprofessional and unhelpful
My license plate was stolen, and they told me they would send someone out to do a police report. Apparently the officer came at THREE IN THE MORNING because I woke up to a voice mail telling me they'd been here and (shocker!) no one answered the door. They then had the gall to ask me to call them back so I could let them know when I would be available.
I have been on hold now for an hour and a half trying to reach them...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 14, 2022
You call 911 in this town and nobody picks up. I got assaulted on a city street and called 911 repeatedly, and they just put you on hold endlessly and no one ever picks up. They just don't care about law-abiding citizens, enabled by the despicable criminal-loving city government. We are truly on our own in this Wild West town, folks. Prioritize your own safety because no one else will. Better yet, just stay out of this lawless city that doesn't care if you live or die.

Tried calling several times and it just says line busy with repeated beeps. Why have a number at all if you are not going to respond?

Woke up to my license plate being stolen after I literally just paid for my registration smh
Called OPD to make a report Was told that someone would come to me to take the report however an ETA was not available to me Sooo it could possibly take a few minutes to hours ....
Rather than wait I decided to go to the police department myself .......
Walked in I was the only one there !!
Made the report..... I was in and out in a few minutes
Officer E Mendez was very helpful
On to the next task to get this resolved......

Where is 911 in this town. My partner just got asulted by Doug Miller, the owner of Kona Club in Oakland and has been put on hold forever with 911. Freaking Oakland. The perp left and still no 911. They just don't care.

I am writing here because I am not sure where else to post my thoughts. I just read the Mercury News Article about police officers texting racists comments. I am absolutely against racists remarks but I also want to say that some of these officers need help. They see too much violence and crime causing them to lose judgment and become jaded. I am wondering what required mental health programs are available? If there are none, then there should be. I also believe such programs should be mandatory for all officers because they are responding daily to violence and tragedy. Finally, is there a chaplain available that officers could talk to privately without reprisal? Day after day seeing horrible things happen is stored in the body and in the subconscious. An outlet is needed that is healthy and healing...certainly not grim attempts at humor via text.

In a clear abuse of power or sheer boredom: I get pulled over & cited "for not coming to a COMPLETE stop" (I did). Moto-cop D. Tellez threatens to take me in to the station because I didn't want to sign. Never mind I've called the cops when needed & they NEVER show!!
In a city FULL of lawlessness, today's issued citation is just a JOKE... like OPDHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
