Service in making a claim is dispicable. They are using stall methods like loosing documents , requiring documentation from the police regarding the cause of death when it is on the death certificate, etc.

I have been trying to get someone who speaks English for days in customer service. They should have a picture of a middle finger sticking up as their logo instead of Snoopy commercials. This company takes non existent customer service to a whole new level. I have asked for someone in the USA several times and you just go back into the loop of Hell. I wouldn't buy gum from this company. Let the buyer beware.

Have to give even one star, so this would even show up. NO customer service. On hold with some robot forever, then disconnected. Called back and tried to get a live person. Talked to someone in their call center in effing Central America, who could barely speak English. That is a new low. Gave me another number to call, which was no good either and gave me yet another bad number to call. I finally asked if the damn company was going out of business due to the pathetic quality of what passes for customer service there. I see from Google that the company was sold last month. I still have not reached anyone who could help me or who knows the difference between a dividend check from life insurance or dividend check from stock. They think you're the stupid one if you think there is a difference. Maybe will just file a complaint with BBB. Maybe then I will get a response from someone with half a brain who speaks English.

Very strange coverage says it reduces 50% and then it says coverage reduces by another 50% at age 70. Def going to look into reporting them. Seems like a scam.

I am 54 years old and can say that I have never felt so ripped off and misled by any company as MetLife. I wish I could make the rating negative stars they are that bad. I had a policy with Northwester but was misled and then ripped off by MetLife so I can celled my policy after only three months. I quickly went back to Northwestern who in hindsight was a much better company to deal with and after 24 years with them they have never misled me.

After 27 years of paying on 3 whole life policies, I learn that the premium (supposed not to change) has a clever way of making insurance cost increases that withdraw from cash value!!!! OMG. Really? So after 27 years of paying, the cash value is nearly gone. It was sold to be paid up in 25 years and you can w/draw cash value and keep death benefit! I called to verify this information Metlife explained that it is all legal. Interesting that there is no federal oversight agency just state agencies. I feel very foolish for trusting such a dishonest company.

Metropolitan Insurance continues to find ways to not pay out on a life insurance policy. When my mom passed, they would not let me change the beneficiary to the trust my dad set up because I was not my dad (who was no longer mentally competent to do so.) They denied my ability to do anything because the power of attorney I had was not "the right" power of attorney. The power of attorney I had was the all encompassing one. The latest is that all five siblings were sent a letter by Metropolitan to submit as one of the beneficiaries since Metropolitan denied payment to the trust. That was fine, I told all my siblings to send their application back and just get payment directly from Metropolitan. I knew, however, it could not be that easy, and here is the latest. I just received a letter stating that Metropolitan received a letter from "another claimant" (duh, they asked all five siblings to submit a claim!), they indicate they "reviewed the matter thoroughly" and have denied this mystery claiments claim, but there is now a 60 day appeal period to respond to the denial. In the meantime, this is once again in limbo. I wish this was only a matter of stupid people running the company, but it is clear they are thieves who do whatever they can to hold on to people's money and not pay until they have used every dishonest tactic to delay payment. Unfortunately this is not enough money to hire an attorney to sue their sorry butts off, so all I can do is warn people, do not do business with this company!
Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 8, 2014Previous reviewMy experience is the same as Jennifer B. MetLife seems to find every excuse to not help or issue a $5,000 life insurance payment that my dad paid for (and probably paid off) over many years. Both before and after my dad passed away, these guys worked hard to find ways to have the policy lapse (they had to know time for payment was coming since my dad was 86 when he died), and since then, every time I send another 10 or 15 pages of documents they decline to pay and send additional paperwork that needs to be filled out. Before my dad passed, and as trustee with full power of attorney I tried to have the trust designated as the beneficiary since my mom had passed. They claimed I did not have the "right" power of attorney to do that (my dad checked off every box there was for the various powers of attorney.) I have done endless paperwork since then, but it is never enough. It also costs money, since they wanted notarized original death certificates for both my mom and dad which I sent. I won't go into all the details, suffice it to say that these guys are phonies and crooks and will paperwork you to death, then find additional reasons to hold on to your cash. DO NOT BUY A POLICY FROM THESE GUYS, EVER!!! No one who loses a loved one should have to go through this. What this really calls for is a class action lawsuit, I'm guessing this is standard practice for these pirates, and they make a lot of money hanging on to what should be paid out (and I am guessing there are people who just give up and let them keep the money). Find a different company to work with, you will save lots of time and aggravation.

Metlife has put me through 6 months of red-tape and paperwork hell that is never ending in order to issue a piddley $2,000 life insurance claim from my father's death. I still have not been issued payment and continue to receive notifcation of more and more paperwork (which often requires the time and expense of hiring a notary). I seriously believe this company makes it so difficult just hoping people will not complete the process. I have sent them more paperwork in the last six months than they could ever need. I have much more easily secured placing both of vehicles in my name, recd the money from his 3 bank accounts, his entire 401k retirment has long been transferred over to me and my sister and it looks like his house will titled in deed in our names shortly. So there are almost $600,000 in assets that have been transferred to me and my sister, yet metlife still hasn't issued the $2,,000 they owe us and continue to ask for more paperwork. It's just become a principle thing now, we are entitled to it, we want it. I make more than this in a two week period so it's not a matter of need, it's a matter of wanting what is legally entitled to us.
